Fall is apple time! I love to go to the orchard and pick my own apples right off the tree! It’s great knowing where the apples came from and that they are organically grown. Of course, you know they are healthy to eat, and there’s nothing like the great aroma of fresh apples baking in the oven! It makes your whole house somehow seem cozier and happy!
Did you know that there was a study that found that smelling sliced green apples was found to help with migraine pain for patients? Researchers found that the smell of the green apples induced a positive mood state! I know I always feel the scent of apples baking is very relaxing. The apple scent is known to be very calming!
So let’s make them!
What kind of apples should I use?
I used Macintosh and they came out great! But some prefer Granny Smith, Fuji , Golden Delicious, Honey Crisp or Gala. I’ve read that tart apples are best, but I think any kind would work.
It’s so easy to make apple chips, all you need is apple slices and one ingredient – cinnamon!
1. Cut apples into slim slices, about 1/8 inch. But I didn’t measure; I just sliced them as thin as I could.
How long do apple chips last?
You’re going to want to eat them right out of the oven, but in case you don’t finish them, you can store them in an airtight container in a cool place and they should last 2 days. I forgot to put my apple chips away once and after 3 days they were no longer crispy.
Experiment with these added spices
For more variety, you may want to try adding any of these spices to your apple chips:
Ginger, nutmeg, pumpkin pie spice, or allspice.
