3 Ways to Grow Longer Eyelashes NaturallyWho doesn’t want longer lashes? I love having long lashes and if I can get them without using the toxic glues needed for fake eyelashes (that often fall off) or chemicals in store bought mascaras, that’s perfect! Natural is always the best way and you can look very pretty and natural by working on growing your own lashes naturally. So here’s 3 great ways to grow longer eyelashes naturally that I have found to help.

Fake lashes are pretty popular, but I don’t like using the fake lashes, even for special occasions because they tend to not look very natural looking and plus, I don’ t like that you have to apply the glue to your skin. Yuck, who knows what kinds of chemicals are in that and it’s especially not good, because you have to put it so close to your eye and the skin around the eye area is super sensitive.

Sometime last year, in the fall or so, I started experimenting with using different methods to grow longer eyelashes naturally! So, I wanted to share an update with the ones I’ve been experimenting with and how they’ve been working!

I’ve been using a combination of 3 ways to grow longer eyelashes naturally, using castor oil, a homemade eyelash boosting mixture, and massage! As you can see in my before and after picture (below at the end of the post) my eyelashes have definitely grown! That’s me in the picture above, it was taken about 2 weeks ago and you can see how great my eyelashes are looking! I’m so happy with the results!

Here are the 3 Ways to Grow longer Eyelashes Naturally:

1. Castor Oil

I think using castor oil has worked wonders for helping to grow my eyelashes! Castor oil is used not only for increasing growth of eyelashes, but also for growing your hair and for eyebrows too! It contains beneficial antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which in combination with a rich source of nutrients aids in encouraging hair growth.

How to Use it:

Make sure to use a natural and hexane-free brand of castor oil (I use this one). To use it, just wash your eye area until it is clean of any makeup or products. Then, use either your finger or a cotton swab to lightly apply the castor oil from the roots of the eyelashes to the ends of the lashes. You only need a drop or two to cover the lashes for each eye, a little goes a long way. Apply the castor oil at least a few times a week.

2. DIY Eyelash Growth Boosting Recipe (using coconut oil and lavender essential oil)

I was reading about the benefits of using lavender essential oil and how it can increase eyelash growth so, I made this quick DIY recipe to use on my eyelashes. Lavender essential oil helps get rid of harmful free radicals and has been shown to help significantly increase hair growth. One study found that in 86 patients who use lavender to treat hair loss, over 44% saw significant hair growth. Coconut oil is a perfect carrier oil to mix it with because it is soothing and nutrient rich, plus it’s antibacterial and antimicrobirial.

What you need:

  • 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil
  • 2-4 drops lavender essential oil

How to Use it:

Mix the coconut oil and lavender together and use your finger or a cotton swab to apply it along your eyelash roots down to the ends of your eyelashes.

3. Massage Eyelids

Massaging the eyelid area and near the lashes helps increase blood flow and circulation, which encourages your lashes to grow! This made perfect sense to me when I found this tip as I also do it for my hair! Every night I massage my scalp to help increase hair growth.

How to Do it:

Just use your fingers (be sure to wash your hands first) to gently massage the eyelid area along the lashes. Preferably, do it once a day or at least a few times a week.

My Results:

I’ve been using each one of these methods to grow longer eyelashes naturally 2 to 3 times a week for almost a year. Sometimes I occasionally forgot to do it or had a busy week, but for the most part, I tried to do each one at least 2 times a week. Note: Even though they’re longer, I don’t think they have grown much thicker. It’s hard to tell.

I’m very happy with my results! My eyelashes have definitely grown noticeably longer. In the picture above, I do have mascara on; it’s my all natural homemade mascara, which I think definitely helps my lashes to look even longer too! So, I think it’s a combination of both that has given me such great results!

How Long Does it Take to See Results?

It’s been almost a year since I started using these natural ways to grow longer eyelashes. But, you don’t need to wait that long to see results. I think within 1 month and definitely by 3 months, I noticed longer lashes!

Have you tried any natural ways to grow longer eyelashes?3 Ways to Grow Longer Eyelashes Naturally - My eyelashes were noticeably longer just after 3 months of using these natural methods at home. #DIY #natural #allnatural #naturalremedy #groweyelashes #eyelashes #growlongereyelashes #longereyelashesnaturally

I have also used Vaseline (I buy the store brand) to thicken my lashes. It didn’t seem to add length, but did thicken when used a few nights a week before bed. It also is a great eye “cream” to tighten and plump aging lids and lines around eyes. Just a little or you’ll clog pores. Very happy to see your tips on lengthening lashes since mine need it after years of false lashes as a belly dancer.

Hi I came across your article on pinterest about 6 months ago, lots of people were leaving rude and VERY skeptical comments, I defended your article though because I do know that castor oil is used to grow hair and it would be silly not to try it. I can say that putting coconut oil and castor oil on my eyelashes religiously for about 5 months (I slacked a bit sometimes) it really has made my lashes WAY longer. I can feel the length when I put on my mascara and especially see it when I use my eyelash curler, it’s pretty insane how long they can grow! I’m glad I stumbled upon your article cuz I wouldn’t have thought to try this. I’m trying to find my before picture but it’s lost somewhere but once I find it I will definitely post results and a link to your page!

HI, I agree, Latisse really works but it is just so expensive, and the brushes suck. For the past couple of months Ive been purchasing generic Latisse from an online store and it works just as good as Latisse for more than half the price. I’m seeing the same results that I have gotten with Latisse. I leave the link to the store below if you all want to check it out longerlashez.com

      Hi Pamela,
I used Lattise as well… It worked wonderfully, for three years. However, stopped cuz so expensive. Now, I have lash extensions for special occasions and really like em. But, also pricey to keep up.
I’ve tried the natural oil (virgin olive) for about a month and noticed absolutely nothing- Perhaps with mixture of oils suggested by Lori and others might help! I haven’t seen before & after pics. Lori do you have any to post, so we can see your success with longer lashes?

    Hi Lori,

I’ve used Latisse in the pass but very expensive so I would like to try to do natural! Do you find doing all three methods is the best way to see results and can I just go to a store that sells natural products instead of ordering on-line? Also you said you use it 2/3 times a week can I use it everyday and once you achieved the growth is it something you will have to maintain it and do for life? Is there one time are another that is best to do this like at night before bed, and because of using all natural would there be a chance of any side effects?

I think that combining them will improve the results. You should be able to find them at a natural health food store. They’re usually more expensive at my local health food store so I like to by them online. You could use it daily. That would be even better. I still keep using them but, I’m just not as strict about remembering to do it now. If I miss a few days I don’t worry about it. I’m not sure if the results would stay if I totally stopped using them, because I’ve been using it all along. I like to do them at night time just because that’s when I don’t have any makeup on.

I have been getting the fake eyelashes filled in every two weeks. This is starting to get old. What would you recommend to completely take them off (without hurting) and go with the natural growth? Also, how much castor oil and lavender oil do you mix?

I’ve never used fake eyelashes before so I’m not sure what would be the best way to remove them. Are they on with glue? Maybe using olive oil or warm to hot wash cloth would help. I take about 1/2 teaspoon of castor oil with a drop or two of lavender oil and mix them up.

When I used the fake eyelashes it took its tool on my real lashes and made them shorter I think the glue ate them up. Wouldn’t suggest it.

That’s a great question! I apply it lightly to avoid it getting into my eyes. One time I put on too much, I forgot I had it on and rubbed my eye and it must of got in my eye because it started to water. I just wiped the excess off with a tissue and it was fine. So now I always make sure to not put too much.

Great tips! I recently started using castor oil treatments for my hair, so it makes sense that it would work for brows and lashes, too! Have you considered 100% organic, therapeutic essential oils? My kit came with a 5-ml of lavender as well as about 10 other 5-ml oils and a cold water diffuser! I use the lavender and Frankincense almost daily for hair, skin and nails with no worries about skin irritation or reactions. I can’t wait to try your lavender & coconut oil mask with it!

I use castor oil, avocado oil, lavender essential oil, and frankincense essential oil in my face oil wash to get rid of acne. I have been putting it on my lashes and it seems to make my lashes longer after 2 months of use. It also cleared my acne. 2 tbsp castor oil, 2 tbsp avocado, 20 drops lavender, 5 drops frankincense.

    Hey Lori!
Just wanted to applaud you for using natural methods of typical cosmetic replacements. I have been switching my makeup routine to all organic. I just wanted to let you know that the reason why you have no “thicker” lashes isn’t because the serums aren’t working, but you CAN’T actually grow THICKER lashes. You can grow LONGER lashes, but not thicker. That has not actually been PROVEN to work, though it may be advertised. Just wanted to let you know! Keep up the good work 🙂

I was using coconut oil on my eye area for a long time – both to remove makeup, and just for its benefits. I didn’t see any change in my lashes although it may have helped with retaining moisture.
But a few months ago, as I live in a northern Canada and we get little vitamin D from the sun, I upped my vitamin D intake for mood and health benefits (I took approximately 5,000 IU/day) and within only a few weeks my eyelashes were suddenly noticeably longer, without mascara. I also started taking a B-complex vitamin soon after, but I’m pretty sure it was the vitamin D. Who knew!

(I take a high-quality B complex supplement as well.) I thought it was hormonal or something else in my diet, but now that I read your post, I realize it must be the Vitamin D. Woo Hoo!

To much vitamin D crystallizes in the liver. It is very dangerous to take to much. Take it down to one pill. From my Dr.

Everyone’s body is different in their need for various dosages of vitamin D depending on level. I go to a homeopathic dr, & for the past 4yrs have been taking 10,000iu with no issues for a very low vit.D count. Finally found a brand that is raising my level. bi-annual blood work each year shows no liver toxicity. Therefore you cannot make a generalized statement!

Hello, I have read a lot of good reviews on Bimatoprost (Latisse lumigan). So I’ve been using the generic version for a couple of months now and the difference is amazing. This stuff is amazing. I use it on my brows too and my brows look fantastic. I over – plucked compulsively and ruined them and now they are better than ever.
Got a generic version to save $. So happy my friend told me to find it online. She said just search in Google for code “GET24BIMA”.

I’ve been growing my lashes naturally with Lash Flirtation by Quane Cosmetics. It takes several weeks to start seeing the difference but it’s definitely working. I hear Grandelash works too, if you don’t mind the price.

I love the results. Your eyelashes look better than fake! Are you wearing your homemade mascara in both pictures? Can you include a link to your mascara recipe please? Real eyelashes don’t fall off or irritate your eyes, great idea!

Thank you so much! I’m really happy with the results. They’re definitely longer, I just wish I could get them to be fuller. The before picture is without mascara. Unfortunately, it’s the only picture I have without mascara. I need to take an after without mascara sometime soon and add it to this post. I don’t have the mascara recipe posted..it’s in my e-book.

if you want your eyelashes fuller, just swipe on one layer of mascara and add one thick layer of baby powder to them.. make sure to cover the entire lash, once it’s covered, add one or two more layers! it will look thicker and fuller.. plus no more clumps!

Using baby powder is NEVER a wise idea. TALC is carcinogenic.
Talc: carcinogen. Used by some 20 million women in their reproductive years not to mention, its wide use on infants in the form of “baby powder”. According to Dr. Epstein, M.D., “Talc should never be used on babies both because of its carcinogenicity and acute respiratory distress from inhalation that often results in death. There are at least 3 clear cut studies which have been published in the scientific literature that show routine application of talc in the genital area is associated with up to a 3 to 4 fold increase in the development of ovarian cancer.”

No, don’t throw the talc out….use it in the garden. Talc when applied to bulbs and tubers and in the planting holes before planting will kill microscopic pests by cutting their little legs off….I know sounds cruel, but it’s cruel at the micro level! Talc contains minute minerals that have very sharp edges like glass and it literally will kill the pests.

So not put baby powder around your eyes. Use corn starch or arrowroot or even dry milk powder.

But we don’t want fake eyelashes…we want our very own longer eyelashes. I rarely see anyone who knows how to apply mascara without them looking phony and clumpy…ugly. I think natural long eyelashes w/o mascara look a lot better.

Have you tried 3D Fiber Mascara from Younique? You would definitely get the volume you are looking for and with the length you all ready have your lashes would be phenomenal! The mascara, as well as all their other products, are also chemical free, cruelty free and natural based. I can’t wait to try the lavender oil, thanks for the tip!!

That stuff is INCREDIBLE, it really is worth the money if u can afford it. All mascara is very very similar to one another. Whether it’s $6 or $28 there’s not too much difference it’s honestly kind of a scam IMO. That’s why I love this post so much! When customers would ask what one was the best at our counter I’d tell them to save their $ for good makeup brushes. Maybelline Great lash (famous $7 pink & green tube) wins the best mascara EVERY year! Its competitors are $50 tubes! The b4 & after pics posted here are motivating! They’re so simple & anyone can obtain castor oil it coconut at a grocery store!

I’m allergic to Great lash it made my eyes all itchy. I use Falsies and everyone ask if they are fake. Is mascara bad for your eyelashes? I think it dries mine out and my eyelashes are falling out😣 I’m really scared of that happening. How much does castor oil cost?

I use the Younique and I LOVE it! Did you know that you can also use their pigments to make rainbow hair color that will wash right out? Much better on the hair and keeping hair from becoming fried from all the fancy coloring, plus you’re not stuck with rainblow. Great for a one time event and then wash out when ready.
