This easy to make homemade furniture polish works great for removing water marks and scuff marks.Homemade Furniture PolishOil and vinegar are not just for making salad dressing, you can make a great homemade furniture polish and cleaner. It’s a great natural alternative to those commercial wood polishes, that are loaded with chemicals. You especially don’t want to have those on the table where you eat!

This natural furniture treatment is great because the vinegar helps clean the wood and the oil helps lubricate it. I tried this on my cabinets that had food stains and smudges around the handles and it really made them look a lot better.

Why not use commercial furniture polish?

Commercial furniture polish has toxic chemicals that can be sprayed in the air or left as residue on your furniture. It also has a strong odor and I rather not have my company smell this when they come over for dinner.

Using it in Warm Weather:

Since winter is just starting, you don’t need to worry about this now. But, I have read that during the summer months you may want to adjust the amount of oil in the recipe to prevent it from becoming rancid. In the summer months, you may want to use half vinegar and half oil for the ratio.

How to Use this Natural Homemade Furniture Polish:

What you need:

  • 1 part vinegar (apple cider vinegar or white vinegar)
  • 3 parts oil (olive oil or jojoba oil)
  • Optional -add a few drops of lemon. Some like to add it for the aroma and cleaning benefits.

Directions:

1. Combine ingredients in jar or cup and stir or shake.
2. Apply to wood with a clean cloth or “microfiber cloth”.
3. Rub with a dry cloth to remove any excess.

My Results with this Homemade Furniture Polish:

First, I used this homemade furniture polish on my dining room table to test it out. I was desperate to try anything to improve how my dining room table looked. It is probably about 5 years old and has a lot of scuff marks on the surface that I never could seem to get out. I first tried this polish on my dining room table at night and after I used it, I definitely noticed an improvement. Then, when a friend was coming over a few weeks later, I reapplied it during the day and wow, I really saw how great the results were when the natural sunlight shinned on the table.

It improved the appearance of scuff marks, coffee cup rings, and water marks from my dining room table (pictured above). The glossy look also seems to help minimize the deeper scratches. My table does not look perfect by any means, but, it’s a big improvement!

My second before and after picture (below) is from when I tried it on my kitchen cabinets. It worked well on them too! It removed some of the marks and gunk; it looks much cleaner and newer!
