Looking for a simple solution to thicken hair naturally? I’m always trying to find new ways to make my long and thin hair look thicker. But, many products you find in the store for volumizing hair contain harsh chemicals and can often cause more harm to your delicate hair. If you’re like me, you want to have full thicker hair that is both shiny and healthy looking and the best way to get this is by using only natural ingredients.
Not only are the harsh chemicals bad because they can be absorbed through your skin, but they can also cause your hair to break more easily or cause hair loss as well. When I was in college quite a few years ago, I used to tease my hair and spray it with hairspray to make it appear thicker. Even though it worked for some time, it just caused more damage to my hair and the toxic chemicals in the hair spray were frightening. But, there’s no need to use harmful chemical laden products, because there are several effective ways to thicken hair naturally!
Why is Thinning Hair so Common?
Over 60% of women have thinning hair or are dealing with some type of hair loss.
There are many health conditions and simple vitamin deficiencies that can cause hair to thin or thin hair may just be a genetic trait in your family. To treat thinning hair it is best if you can find out the cause. However, even if you don’t know the cause, there are many effective ways to thicken hair naturally that are very successful and simple to do. You can see results in just a few weeks to a few months!
Causes of Thin Hair
There are many causes that could be the reason you have thin hair or are experiencing hair loss. Listed below are just a few of the most common causes. In order to determine the underlying cause, you may want to see a Naturopathic doctor who can help you by getting appropriate blood tests to find out why your hair is thinning.
-Shampoo: If you’re shampoo contains harmful ingredients such as sodium laureth sulfate, which has been linked to causing hair loss, switch to a natural shampoo immediately. Castile soap makes a great all natural shampoo.
-Copper Deficiency– A deficiency in copper can cause hair thinning and other symptoms such as fatigue. A lack of this mineral is common because it can be difficult to absorb and those who supplement often with zinc, have even more trouble absorbing it. Women who supplemented with cooper saw an increase in hair growth by 38%.
-Manganese deficiency- German researchers found that some women were deficient in this mineral and those who took 10mg daily re-grew their hair in just 3 months.
–Hypothyroidism– One of the most common symptoms is hair thinning. This is easy to check with a simple blood test.
-Vitamin D Deficiency– Hair loss is one of the primary symptoms of a deficiency in vitamin D.
-Hormonal Imbalance– A disruption in the balance of your hormones, such as estrogen or testosterone can cause hair loss.
-Stress – Due to increased cortisol levels, stress can cause hair thinning and hair loss.
5 Ways to Thicken Hair Naturally
1. Castor Oil:
Castor oil has been used successfully for many years for increasing hair growth, not only for your head, but also for eyebrows and eyelashes. It helped my mom grow back her eyebrows. It is well known for the many health benefits it provides including its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. Castor oil is high in omega 3 fatty acids, ricinoleic acid, and vitamin E, in addition to many other minerals and proteins. These nutrients help nourish the hair and scalp to increase growth. Castor oil also increases circulation, which is critical for promoting hair growth.
How to use it: Take a few tablespoons of castor oil (use more or less depending on how long your hair is) and massage it into your scalp. Make sure to use pure castor oil that is hexane free.
It is a thick oil, so it may be a little difficult to spread. You can mix it with a thinner oil to make it a little easier to put on, like coconut oil. (Just mix 1/2 coconut oil with 1/2 castor oil). Continue to massage it into your scalp for several minutes, then begin to work it through the rest of your hair. Let it sit on your hair for an hour or two, then wash it out. Try to do this at least once a week or several times a week for better results.
2. Onion Juice:
Onion juice increases circulation and decreases inflammation of the hair follicles, which promotes hair growth and decreases hair breakage. The onion juice also acts as a natural antioxidant to reverse the damage caused by a buildup of hydrogen peroxide on the scalp, which is associated with hair loss.
See how to make onion juice and how to use it to thicken hair naturally in my post.
3. Ginseng:
Applying ginseng to treat thinning hair works because the beneficial compounds it contains help stimulate blood flow to your scalp and hair follicles, which aids in the regeneration of cells to promote hair growth. I use these American gingseng capsules. I empty the capsule and mix it with oil to make it easy to apply.
How to use it: Empty one ginseng powder capsule and add it to 3 to 4 tablespoons of oil (you can use coconut oil or jojoba oil). Stir the mixture and apply it to your scalp. Continue to massage it into your scalp for about 5 minutes. Repeat several times per week or daily.
4. Massaging Scalp:
One of the simplest ways to promote hair growth and reverse thinning hair is to just to massage your scalp daily. Massaging your scalp increases blood flow and promotes circulation to stimulate hair growth. Just use your hands to massage your scalp for about 5 minutes, two times a day. I do it once in the morning and once at night.
5. Essential Oils:
There are quite a few essential oils that have been shown to promote new hair growth and prevent hair breakage. Two of the most common that are used to increase hair thickness are: grapeseed oil and cedarwood essential oil. Grapeseed oil contains a high amount of essential fatty acids and Vitamin E which promotes thicker hair. Additional beneficial essential oils include lavender, rosemary, and thyme.
How to use it: Add 5 drops of one of these essential oils to 2 to 3 tablespoons of a carrier oil (coconut oil or jojoba oil works great). Mix them together and apply to your scalp with your fingers. Continue massaging it on to your scalp for about 5 minutes. Repeat several times a week.
2 Ways to Make Your Hair Look Thicker Instantly!
If you start using some of the above mentioned ways to thicken your hair, you should see results in a few weeks or within a few months. But, if you want your hair to have more volume and look thicker instantly, there are two natural ways to do it.
1. Baking Soda-
This is an easy way to thicken hair naturally instantly! Instead of washing your hair with shampoo, use baking soda. Typical shampoos leave behind residue that builds up on the hair shaft and can leave your hair flatter, more dull, and looking thin. To wash your hair with baking soda, take a 3 to 4 tablespoons of baking soda and add about 3/4 cup of water. Mix them together and it will form a liquid mixture that can be used in place of shampoo.
The baking soda removes the build up of residue and will instantly leave your hair looking thicker. With continued use it also works great because it stimulates the hair follicles and the exfoliation it provides can boost hair growth over time.
2. Apple Cider Vinegar-
After you wash your hair, take 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar and pour it over your hair as a hair rinse. Do not rinse it out with water, leave it in your hair and dry as usual. The apple cider vinegar is full of nutrients and it helps balance the pH levels of your scalp. After you dry your hair you will see it will have instantly more volume. This is because the vinegar removes the build up of residue on your hair.
Not only is apple cider vinegar great for adding volume to your hair instantly, but with continued use it will also promote hair growth and decrease hair breakage due to its rich source of vitamins and nutrients.
My Results So Far
I’ve been using a combination of all of these methods to thicken hair naturally for a few years now and my hair is noticeably thicker. I currently wash my hair with either castile soap or my homemade coconut milk shampoo most days. Then, at least once a week I wash my hair with baking soda, which really helps to increase my hair volume as it removes built up residue. I always use apple cider vinegar instead of conditioner. I continue to use all the methods to thicken hair naturally throughout the week; making sure to use castor oil, ginseng, or onion juice on my scalp at least once a week to maintain my increased hair growth.
Hi,
I like the way you address the issues of the people. I’m male 32 and suffering the problem of hair loss from the last four months. In the last four months, I lost my hair’s so rapidly and much worried about the problem. All of my friends and family members are also noticed the change.
I’m wondering why is that happening in that quick way and what should I have to do to stop the hair fall…
Still..the problem getting worse and worse…
needs your advice.
Thanks
Hi there, you may want to see a naturopath to see if there is an underlying cause, such as a thyroid issue, adrenal, or hormonal cause.
Are these products (castor oil, etc…) and treatments (onion juice…) safe for a pregnant woman ?
Thank you.
… and is there something to replace the ginsen products ? can’t buy it where i am !
one last thing, how to apply castor oil on eyelashes ?
Thanks again.
They should be, they’re completely natural.
Castor oil if taken internally is thought to induce labor… not sure about using externally. Might want to stay away from this one while pregnant or ask a doctor.
Thank you very much for the information. Please tell me if there is anything i can do to the hair so it’s longer and thicker (while pregnant).
Thank you
Thanks for sharing!
I was over due by almost two weeks my mother made me drink it and my water broke in 4 hours and had a baby 2 hours later! Plus is cleans out your colon so no accidents while pushing
I also had a question? Ivery always had unmanageable thick frizzy hair so I tried the fade of Brazilian Blowouts. Only had 3 I know the main ingredient is formaldehyde. I loved the results but I stopped because my hair got so thin and now I only have half of what I hade before. My last treat ment was 3 years ago and it is still the same. Do you think my hair will ever recover? After 3 years of no more hair growth from what I loss.do you think these remedies will help with this permanent damage?
Isn’t it also true that your hair follicles decrease in size as we age and thus causes thinning of the hair that does grow?
Interesting! I haven’t come across research on it before.
My hairdresser is the person who advised of the follicles decreasing in size as we age.
Here is some information on that issue: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/004005.htm
Great article above ! It was mentioned to use ACV rinse after washing hair and not rinse it out… But If I just dump half a cup of ACV onto my head after washing and not rinse it out… won’t my hair smell like vinegar after Blowdrying? Also does ACV rinse not make hair greasy ?
Glad it was helpful! My hair doesn’t smell at all after it dries (air dry or blow dry). ACV doesn’t make hair greasy at all. It’s nothing like regular conditioner. Commercial conditions always make my hair look really thin and weighed down. The ACV helps soften my hair, gets rid of tangles, but gives my hair a lot more volume.
Does baking soda make hair dry and brittle. Can anyone having already dry hair can use it? Can egg also make volume in hair and what vinegar should we use white or green
I use apple cider vinegar after baking soda, it acts as a natural conditioner. Egg works great for shine and moisturizing.
when you wash your hair with baking soda, do you condition it, or just shampoo with the baking soda?
I do use apple cider vinegar as a conditioner.
Hi, I am 48 yrs, male n m going bald and my hairs are thin, can you suggest something for me, will castor oil with jojoba oil help regrowth? Thanks
Are these suggestions safe for colour treated hair?
I’ve used all of them over the past few years and the ends of my hair are color treated. They still came out good and didn’t harm my hair.
Is baking powder the same as baking soda? Or bicarbonate of soda?
Baking powder and baking soda (sodium bicaronate) are different.
Hy i extremely need your help. Please tell me can I use baking soda to thicken my hair? Does it also reduce hairfall.? What is cider? My hair are very thin and it is falling a little but I feel embarrassed of my thin hair. What should I do?
Many say that the baking soda binds to hair which makes it look thicker. You can research more about apple cider vinegar (I use the kind with the ‘mother’).
Does my hair would become thicker by baking soda.?
Is there any other natural remedies to thick hair in 1or2 months?
i have oily hair.so should i avoid oil massage or use it?if i should use which oil? my hair is falling a lot and now its too thin. is it bcoz of oily hair.what can do
You can still use oil even though you have oily hair. Sometimes hair becomes oily because we are washing it too often and stripping away the natural oils.
My hair already have immense power to grow quickly but the one and only problem I’m suffering through is my thin hair!!!! Hardcore solution required soon ??
Hope one of these remedies works for you!
what about coconut oil? is it effective?
I am a Guy and I want to thicken my hair, slightly. Would hyaluronic acid help? I eat a healthy diet. My hair used to be blonde, somewhat now it isn’t…what happened? Hormonal change, I think so. I intend to keep my hair forever so do you have any advice?
You can email me back, if you want to.
All of the changes you mention can be the result of aging.. They can occur in some people who are quite young.. Darkening of hair can occur up to 30 or so.. Lightening/fading usually comes with late middle age.. I had an aunt who’s red hair turned brown, in late middle age..
How to increase human hair in naturally..please any two tips?
I am 42 year old men.from last few years i lost my hair very fast.pls. suggest me best to stop hair falling, thinning and grow new hair.
ACV/honey mix, 50/50 works well for me.. I don’t think there is help for male pattern baldness as it’s hereditary..
you never see a baldy woman I took acv honey baking soda cocanut oil grass and boil it up in the saucepan and ended up in the hostipal for a hold week it was horrible to drink
Hi,
Has any of these natural remedies actually made your thicker? If so could you let me know which were most effective? I lose quite a few strands of hair when I’m in the bath tub and I get scared that I will lose my hair.
Thanks 🙂
For me, I’ve noticed a big improvement from doing the massaging (2 times a day for the past few years), castor oil (weekly), and doing the onion juice.
The remedies mentioned in this post are helpful to boys also?
Absolutely!
Lori,
I used Minoxidil 5% 2011-2012 and I got hairs density increased in one and a haif year, but when I left Minoxidill 5%,I lost that density much fast than it was before using Mino.
I used your onion juice trick for 3 months it stopped my hairfall. For getting new hairs I started Mino since April. But I m afraid to leave it bcz it may harm. Can you give guideline.
Baking soda to get out residual castor oil. Can you explain. Make paste or put straight on head? Will any of this affect semi-permanent hair color?
I pour a couple tablespoons of it dry into my hand and rub it near the roots of my hair. (You may not need to use that much- I have really long hair) Then put my hair under the water and massage it while I’m rinsing it out. It takes out the extra oil. 🙂
How would I use the grape seed oil for my thin hair also I have Walmart organic extra virgin coconut oil will that work
Coconut oil works great it is very moisturizing! You could mix some of the grape seed oil in with the coconut oil and apply it as a hair mask.
Is there any other oil I could mix with that and how much I also have avocados oil just as long as it is safe
Avocado oil is great! I’ve used castor oil, coconut oil, and jojoba oil before. Oh and olive oil. 🙂 Just a few teaspoons is usually enough.
How much gelatine to take and how to take plz.
I take 2 tablespoons a day. (one in the morning and one at night).
Hie Lori I want to ask does onion have any side effect when we will apply on your scalp
I haven’t had any side effects personally.
Alma naturals makes shampoo bars with essential oils. My husband uses the one for thinning hair and his hair is growing back. I use the one for dandruff. My daughter with oily hair uses the orange mint and my daughter with waist length hair uses the lavender and frankincense one. Willi never go back to liquid shampoo. I only condition my hair twice a month. The bars have argan oil coconut oil jojoba oil and olive oil.
Glad it’s working for you!
Hi can you tell me where I can buy Alma Shampoo Bars from ,thanks kay
Which one is the one for thinning hair?? I went to their website but they do not specify which one does what. Thanks
Which one does your husband use for thinning hair ? Whats the name of the product.?
Nice post! I did try the castor oil and so did a blogger friend and we both felt it took hair out b/c it is so hard to get out of your hair. Have you ever tried it yourself? Thanks!
Thanks Adrienne! I use castor oil about once every two weeks or so. It was hard to get out for me too! But, I apply a little baking soda afterwords and really helps get it out. 🙂
how of keeping castor oil whole night
You can keep it on all night, I usually don’t because the oil gets all over my pillows.
Hi,
This is my first visit to your site. Just wondering what kind of shampoo you use?
Hi Kim, I was using the ‘no poo’ method for a few years, but my hair became dry. So, I now wash my hair with castile soap and use apple cider vinegar as a conditioner.
Hi I was wondering which one worked the best ?
For me, I think the onion juice and massaging has helped the most.
Hello Lori,
After I saw this article into your website, I tried the method of onion juice.
It is a bit difficult to practice due to the bad smell. So, I want to ask you a question:
Does it matter the kind of shampoo I wash up the hair after I hold the onion juice for about a half hour onto my hair?!
and another question is: could I use a conditioner shampoo? in order to remove all of the onion smell.
thank you in advance.
looking forward to hear from you.
Any type of shampoo or combination shampoo/conditioner should work to remove the smell. I use castile soap myself.
Thank you for your answer,
I am using this method, I guess it is working well to me.
have a nice day.
Can I ask, how long till you saw results ?
Probably about 4 to 6 months to really notice a difference. The 2 methods at the bottom helped me immediately, especially using the apple cider vinegar.
My twin sister and I used to have so much hair! And over the years it’s become thinner and thinner ); we’ve been trying a lot of different things, but not as consistently as I should be…
But lately o have been using a treatment o bought over amazon and it feels like it’s working, but it’s too early tell atm.
I’ve also heard great things about pumpkin oil and mixing it with Peppermint, as well as the inversion massage method as well.
Hopefully with my consistency my hair will start to thicken, both my sister are super insecure about our hair😔
Thanks for your post and the info you’ve written 🙂
Thanks Arielle. Hope it works for you!
How many parts of each of the acv and Castille soap or do you rotate them?
I use about half castile soap with half water and then use half ACV with half water.
Hi Lori,
My hair volume used to be good. I was in Sydney for sometime and went back to India. I have started experiencing too much hair fall. I have changed shampoos and it was not reduced. I was never facing too much though I have changed shampoos in Sydney. Now my hair thickness is reduced and worried whether I can get new hair back. Kindly help.
Regards,
Hi there. What kind of shampoo do you use now?
A quick check shows I am presently using Prell and a medicated shampoo. I usually grab a shampoo at random. What shampoo do you suggest?
I tried the sodapoo but it dried my already dry hair.. I had been using 50/50 ACV and honey for hair loss.. I realized that it was also cleansing my hair.. After I rinse the mix from my hair I follow it with a vinegar rinse and with a bit of coconut oil.. My hair is the best it’s ever been..
Glad to hear it has been helping!
How to control itching in scalp.
How much acv do u use for rinse?
Do you not use any shampoo or conditioner now? So you mix 50% of the honey and 50% of the acv in the shower. Rinse out, then do the acv again and leave in this time? Thanks!
Apple Cider Vinegar makes my hair feel rough and hard. The oddest think I have heard about applying to the hair is okra. Supposedly it makes your hair smooth and silky.
A Cooper deficiency ?
Copper .right ?
Hi Michael, yes, it should be copper. Sorry for the typo; I just fixed it.
What about natural grass-fed gelatin? No mention of it here, but it’s great for thick, pretty hair.
Grass-fed gelatin is fantastic! Thank you for mentioning it! I was trying to stick with more topically treatments, but dietary changes are extremely important as well. 🙂
You can add some grass fed gelatin to warm water, honey, and AVC and pour over head. You can also use it to add to shampoo!
That sounds great! I never thought of applying it topically.
How do u use that? Is it normal gelatin you put in cheesecakes? Thanks
I think my hair is genetically thin, inherited from my grandma and mom. And it grows pretty slow. I try to do hair masks with coconut oil, olive oil, aloe vera, cinnamon, I even used onion (but it stinks so bad I don’t think I’ll do it again). I started taking biotin, which actually seemed to help prevent hair loss. I will consider manganese and copper. Thanks!
Glad to hear it’s helped prevent hair loss. The onion is hard to get used to, but so many have seen great results from it 🙂
Hi Lori. Thanks for all your advise. I will try baking soda and ACV. Can we use baking soda always, or do we need to stop it for some time, and start it again. I am not sure if it will be some side effects about using it forever. Any suggestion? Thanks. Anna.
I don’t know of any side effects from using it long term.
Will baking soda remove oil from hair?
Yes, it takes the oil out.
Hi Lori will the baking soda and acv strip the relaxer on African-American hair.
I haven’t used relaxer myself, so I’m not sure. 🙂
I’m black & a former hairdresser. I’m going to trý both baking soda n acc & will post my results next month:)
Xenobia, what did you find out ? How did your hair do ? I’m desperate for treatments that really work.
Thank you so much,
Jackie Askew
so after washed baking soda should we use shampoo
This is the most amazing thing I’ve ever tried..my hair looks amazing..I was shocked using all natural products!!!really..who knew…
Yay! So happy it helped!
Dorthera, what product did you use specifically that worked best? Baking soda, ACV or onion juice or other?
Thanks
can we use ACV and Baking soda at the same time ?
Sure! I apply the baking soda first then do the ACV.
What is AVC
Apple Cidar Vinegar (ACV)
Apple cider vinegar 🙂
Any ACV ? I have very thin baby fine hair that doesn’t grow on one side of my head, my ears show and so thin I can not even use hair extensions , anyone have good results with the ACV for this problem.
I can’t believe no one with expert advice replied to this question, I would like to have read some advice, I’m thinking I should just shave my head and invest in a good wig. Trying to fix my awful hair each morning is tiring and wastes a lot of time
Will castor oil and coconut oil remove dandruff??
Does baking soda works
Would this remedies work on men’s hair as well?
Absolutely!
Hello Lori
I will try your recommendations but I have a question after rinsing with ACV does it leave your hair smelling vinegar?
the smell will go away when the hair dries
It doesn’t smell at all after it’s dried.
HELLO LORI ,
I TRIED TO USE THE ACV AFTER SHAMPOO ,AND GREAT it volumized my hair but the problem i encountered is when i sweat it smells awful … during my badminton play it i smell awful .
I also experienced some falling hair too .and dont know if its the cause of the ACV . some says i have to mix it with water .. it might come out too strong . any comment on this ?
thanks
Hmm..have you changed anything else? Anything is possible, but most say that ACV helps hair loss.
You have to dilute d ACV with d water in d ratio of 1:1….Bcoz as v ol knw dat ACV is acidic in nature v can’t use it directly for rinsing d hair…
So I wid recommend u to dilute d ACV b4 using it…
Melissa, Yes, After reading this article, I saw 2 comments about using a shampoo bar (Chrome Dome) her husband was trying, & I forget name of small co. that makes & sells it…in Iowa or somewhere..but after reading it’s ingredients, (glycerin, etc.) I decided to try SoapsBubbles handmade all natural shampoo bars on Etsy, because she has some specifically f/ blondes, too! & I love the yellow color of the bar..so, I know it won’t stain my hair darker. Anyway, I bought my 1st shampoo Blondie II Bar from her, & she includes this excellent list of instructions f/ going all natural shampoos & conditioners f/ 1st time. Included is what she does w/ the ACV. She bought a large condiment squeeze bottle (like ketchup/mustard clear bottles) (I found a great one @ Sally’s that is just f/ applying hair stuff, so it also has pretty writing down one side w/ measurements on it, too, which is great, because I can now measure 1/2 ACV & 1/2 water. She rinses twice w/ about half bottle ea. time, after shampooing, & leaves the ACV in..don’t rinse w/ water after rinsing w/ ACV ea. time. But do rinse out your shampoo really thoroughly, first. I tried her ACV routine w/ the 1/2 & 1/2 & double rinse, & it worked really well on me. Also, I found holistic habits chanel on YouTube, vid. tutorial on what hair products she uses & what essential oils she like to try adding to DIY her own, & she highly recommends the EuroTech all maplewood hair brushes which she bought @ Whole Foods 4 (or more, now!) yrs. ago. But she & nobody can find EuroTech brushes anymore. They’re made in Germany. So, I asked my brother in Germany to research it, & he can’t find online, either. Only EuroTech that comes up now is f/ German Car Parts. Anyway, so I found a substitute all wood brush also made in Germany which looks a lot like here 2 EuroTech brushes. I chose the brush distributed by Dessert Breeze (on Amazon or on Dessert Breeze.com), because it has the wooden pins w/out rounded “ball tips” on ends of the wooden “bristles”, but also because the bristles are made from a very hard wood..so I know they’ll never split or splinter or catch & tear my hair, ever. I read ton of reviews of various all wooden brushes on Amazon, & this appeared to be the best choice f/ me. No static, helps the hair follicles to rejuvenate & grow hair better, moisturizes hair strands by bringing the oil / sebum on your scalp down ea. hair strand. It arrived w/in days, & I love it! It has changed the way my hair looks & feels. I, too, have fine thin blonde hair, & was beginning to get sparse thinner areas near the scalp toward temple & front on one side. But after using this brush just 1 x, & just these few days, you can’t see those thin areas, now. It’s as if they’re already beginning to disappear. After ordering it, I also stumbled across a really sweet cool young guy from Russia w/ a YouTube vid. on how he reversed baldness on himself, & 1 of the things he did was use one of these all wooden wood bristle brushes. His looks like the one made of bamboo, which I saw online, too. I’ll put that & all of these links in a 2nd comment, as I haven’t eaten yet, & it takes a min. to go find & copy/paste them all. But, I ALSO just stumbled across a lot of tutorials by Anthony Morocco, the “Hair Shaman”…& I’ve begun incorporating his recommendations, & boy, his brushing & styling tutorials w/ Ellen, have already transformed or begun transforming the way my hair looks & feels. & by the way, BubblesSoaps on Etsy says that she adds, & you can add, your favorite Essential Oils that are good f/ & compatible w/ hair & good f/ hair growth, etc., to your ACV rinses or shampoos or apply afterward. This, she says, will negate any ACV smell. But, w/out essential oils, yet, & w/ just ACV rinse (twice after rinse shampoo out), when the rain drops or wind hit my hair, it smells super sweet to me. I do prof. cleaning, & I LOVE the smell of ACV & Baking Soda combined when I’m cleaning bathrooms, kitchen sinks, etc. To me they smell like sweet butter, or something. & ACV & Baking Soda react w/ ea. other & bubble up when used @ same time. But I haven’t tried the Baking Soda No-Poo Shampoo (yet), because others have commented here that it dries their hair out (maybe some it does, some doesn’t, depending on hair type?) . But my hair is dry tend to fly-away to begin w/, so, I didn’t want to risk drier hair. BUT, go watch Fully Raw Kristina on her YouTube chanel on “What Shampoo(s) I Use to Wash My Hair”..(& her hair is super long)..& she, too, uses her grandmother’s DIY shampoo recipe which includes baking soda & avocado (fresh mashed, I assume), & I forget what all. The avocado is great f/ moisturizing hair. So it likely counterbalances any dryness, if any, from the baking soda. I forget what else she has in her recipes. But watch all of her “Hair” videos…& maybe those comments above who are experiencing hair loss or fine thin hair like mine, maybe consider trying Kristina’s all natural all plant-based fruit & veggie diet & ton of water, like the cool Russian guy recommends, which (lots water) helped him reverse baldness. Anyway, So, watch all of Anthony Morocco’s tutorials & videos on hair. I’m going to switch to exclusively DIY home-made blonde hair color using Ellen’s recipe in Anthony Morocco’s YT videos. I’ve also made an appt. to have my first trim as close to a full moon as my salon can get. I’m going to ask my salon owner to watch Anthony Morocco’s tutorial vid. on how to blunt cut (trim) hair to make it grow the best & shape the best. I watched all of those & they’re great! Extremely helpful! So, back to the Q. just above, Yes, Anna @ BubbleSoaps on Etsy does a half & half ACV w/ pure water mix to rinse hair twice after shampoo is rinsed out really well, using a giant-sz. clear ketchup type squeeze bottle w/ a small tip opening. You can also use a pour spout like a plastic measuring cup w/ a pour spout. The ACV helps, in the case of a natural shampoo bar (it looks like a bar of soap), to rinse out all of the shampoo. & Her shampoo bars have so many wonderful only natural ingredients, many of which promote hair growth & scalp health.
I also just bought (ordered online) Babassu Oil to try f/ the 1st time…to moisturize my hair, & apply to the ends. I did research on which oils penetrate the hair cuticle & babassu is high on the list of those that penetrate rather than coat the cuticle w/ a film of oil. & Babassu is a very light oil, so I figure it may work well f/ fine blonde hair, while heavier oils may weigh my hair down, & castor oil mixed 1/2 & 1/2 w/ coconut oil (promotes hair growth & does so much more good than that f/ hair & scalp) was a nightmare f/ me to get out. But then I left it in overnight, so maybe w/ my fine hair I should have known to try it 1st f/ just half an hr. instead of over-night. I just studied YouTube & researched online, & The Lord leads me in the right direction step by step, miraculously. W/ this brush, & w/ Anthony Morocco’s techniques & tips, I feel renewed hope & renewed beauty. Plus, I’m taking the Zint Hydrolyzed Collagen Hydrolysate Protein Powder, which another commenter here mentioned & said it makes her hair grow like crazy, & Lori says she uses it, too, (not Zint brand, necessarily, but that’s the brand that I found that had great reviews on Amazon). If I think of anything else, I’ll comment later, but f/ now, these tips seem to be really helping & working. I wrote to Anthony Morocco & asked if he’s still cutting hair & taking appt.s & if he had room on his lunar calendar. But he’s not, so she said (like he does in his videos), just show his tutorial videos to your hairdresser or salon person & have them follow his instructions f/ trimming your hair the right way, which promotes the healthiest hair & fastest growth. I’ll try to add all links mentioned here, soon.
This blog or article has been a tremendous help to me, too…leading me in the right directions..& basing choices on my individual hair type. Hope this helps. Any Q.s? just ask! or ask Lori! She knows more than I do! I’ve learned through trial & error…more trials & more errors than most. I haven’t always been the most intuitive when it comes to hair, in the past. I’m still on a huge learning curve.
Rosemary is a herb that makes hair grow. I use dried rosemary as fresh is too sticky. I pour 1 cup boiling water on 1 tablespoon dried rosemary and leave to steep then pour on freshly washed hair. Hair follicles are rejuvenated and grow your hair back. I noticed a difference within two weeks, after using rosemary twice.
Hi Lori thanks for all the tips but I wanted to ask u a question that will castor oil and coconut oil remove dandruff??
Yes, coconut oil cured my dandruff.
Thank u
I used acv as a rinse after shampooing and my hair after blow drying was twice as thick!
Whats acv?
Apple cider vinegar I guess
Apple cider vinegar 🙂
If you are applying the ACV after shampooing, does that mean you don’t use a conditioner? What does it do for static?
Yea, the ACV acts as a conditioner actually.
Hi!
Im a 14 year old female, I have some what thin hair, I’d like to thicken it. Which ingredient would be best for me?
I found using a combination of the above helps the most for me.
Would it work on dyed hair? Because I am going to be dyeing my hair again and I don’t want the color to wash out so fast any tips?
I would think so. My mom has colored hair and it hasn’t affected the color.
I’m gonna try everything u published for thickening hair and thinning blood
I do not know why my hair is so thin, I was bald when I was born, anyway I am so self conscious about it because my husband loves long hair, but I am ready to try anything, but onion juice, I do not know about that! Terri
I hv super thin hair like grass cant make them,i applied many things but dosent work please please suggest me some thing
Do hot oil massage.use castor oil to make thick hair…its really works.as it is very thick,u can mix it with organ oils u suits.
I’m a big fan of ACV, Castor Oil and Baking Soda. They’re God-given gifts ❤️ I have thin hair than I inherited from my parents and I had severe dandruff before. Now, my scalp is clean, no dandruff, and my hair is getting thicker each day. What I’m using now for my hair is CO and BS. ACV stinks but very effective though.
Do you use this combination all together?
use castor oil… it is the best
Are these methods color safe?
