Natural DIY Eyeliner - Made with only 2 ingredients!
Eyeliner is one of my favorite types of makeup, so when I decided to stop using all of my toxic commercial makeup, I needed to find an alternative for it and the best option is a natural DIY eyeliner. I did try a brand that sold a “natural” eyeliner stick awhile back; however, it didn’t seem to work well and every time I tried to apply it, the tip of the pencil would break off.

I did some experimenting with making all different kinds of makeup and I figured out the perfect solution for a liquid natural DIY eyeliner using aloe, which is gentle and soothing, along with activated charcoal, which gives the recipe it’s black color.

I love using this DIY eyeliner! I apply it just about every single morning. It goes on easily and is very gentle. I don’t typically have to reapply it throughout the day unless I’m going out at night when I’ll sometimes apply some more on my top eyelids.

Benefits of this Natural DIY Eyeliner

It’s easy to make! This has got to be one of the easiest recipes ever for a DIY eyeliner. You only need two ingredients, aloe vera and activated charcoal. Just mix them together and you’ll create a fantastic liquid eyeliner.

There are no harmful ingredients in this recipe. In most (if not all) store-bought eyeliner, you’ll find harmful and toxic ingredients such as coal tar dye, parabens, and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives. I particularly don’t like applying anything on my skin so close to my eyes with those harmful ingredients. I’m sure some must be absorbed into the body.

How Long Will the DIY Eyeliner Last?

I typically make enough to last a few weeks or a month at a time. You can definitely increase the recipe to make as much as you would like. Based on my research, when these two ingredients are combined the shelf-life should be about a year, so you can certainly make much more. The main reason I only make a smaller amount at a time is that it is a liquid eyeliner and you have to use a makeup brush to apply it. This means, when you dip the brush in each time, the chances of getting more bacteria in the mixture/on your brush increases. To keep it fresh, I like to clean my container every so often and clean my makeup brush after each use.

Natural DIY Eyeliner Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 teaspoon aloe vera
  • 2 capsules activated charcoal

Directions:

1. Empty 2 capsules of activated charcoal in a dish.
2. Add the aloe Vera and mix it thoroughly.
3. Use a small makeup brush to apply the eyeliner.

I hope you enjoy this recipe! If you’re interested in making more types of makeup naturally, such as mascara, eyebrow pencil, blush etc., be sure to check out my e-book with over 100+ recipes here.

Hi there — the aloe vera you have a link for needs to be refrigerated after opening. Do you refrigerate your eyeliner after making it? How large of a batch of eyeliner do you make? Thank you!

Hi Ellevee, you can keep it in the refrigerator to help preserve it. I usually don’t make a huge batch, that way it stays good.

I would love to try this, but was wondering if you had any suggestions for a brown eyeliner instead of black. Any help would be appreciated!

Yes, just replace the activated charcoal powder with cacao.

I’m trying to get a lighter color. If I use one capsule instead of two, will it be lighter? Will it be too “liquidy”?

Yes, it will be lighter. I do that sometimes too to put a lighter shade on my eyebrows. It won’t be too liquidy.

    Lori,
Does othe charcoal disolve in the aloe vera gel or is it just suspended. i wear contact lenses and the fine power would be uncomfortable if it gets under the lense. Looking forward to wearing eyeliner again.

It dissolves and is completely liquid. There is no powder residue when you apply it. Keep us updated if you give it a try 🙂

Can you use it on the lower water line? Like a pencil? Or are you confined to under the lower lashes? I’m still trying to find a liner that works like that! I’m a young living member.

Yes! I do that as well. It’s just like a liquid eyeliner.

I think it would. Sometimes I go to bed without washing mine off and it’s still on in the morning.
