If you’ve never used fresh eucalyptus before, you should learn how to use eucalyptus in the shower because it is one of the most helpful remedies for easing congestion! It has now become one of my go-to remedies for anytime I get a cold.
Last time I came down with a cold I switched from using products that contain eucalyptus oil to getting the benefits right from the source. With a little research I quickly figured out how to use eucalyptus in your shower to ease congestion. I hung a eucalyptus plant right in my shower for maximum congestion relief. It looks aesthetically pleasing too!
Why Hanging Eucalyptus in the Shower Helps You Feel Better
The steam from the shower naturally releases the eucalyptus plants’ essential oils. Combined with the steam from the shower this is an amazing remedy when you’re feeling under the weather. The eucalyptus oil works by loosening the mucus in the sinus passages, allowing for better airflow. This will help suppress an annoying cough too. I wish I would have researched how to use eucalyptus in the shower to ease congestion sooner! It has been a lifesaver when I get sick. Some studies even suggest that eucalyptus can boost your immune system.
Research has found that breathing in the essential oils released from eucalyptus can reduce asthma, sinusitis and reduce congestion from colds or flu.
How to Use Eucalyptus in the Shower:
I was surprised at how easy it is to learn how to use eucalyptus in your shower to ease congestion. All you need is 3-4 eucalyptus plant leaves and some garden twine. You can find eucalyptus plants at most local flower shops. You can also order it online too! I ordered my eucalyptus leaves online because our local garden shop was out of them. I like to use garden twine to hang my plants because it holds up longer in moisture.
What you need:
- 3 to 4 eucalyptus plant leaves
- garden twine or string
Instructions:
1. Take about 4 eucalyptus plant leaves and tie them together with garden twine near the stem.
2. Use the same garden twine to tie the bunch of plant leaves to your shower head.
Shower as usual and enjoy the fresh eucalyptus released in to the air!
Tips for Hanging Eucalyptus in the Shower
When you hang the eucalyptus leaves in the shower, be sure that they are away from the flow of water. If the plants get too wet and cannot dry out they can get moldy. I like to hang my eucalyptus leaves off of the shower head, right up against the shower wall. This way I am able to position them away from stream of water.
For the best results, I recommended to change out the eucalyptus leaves in your shower once a week. This ensures the plant will not get moldy and it is able to deliver the highest quality fragrance.
Eucalyptus oil is for various other purposes too! It is used to repel insects, mosquitoes, even ticks! In the summer months this is especially helpful. To me, this is just another added bonus of learning how to use eucalyptus in your shower to ease congestion.

Lori, I love this idea!
I have 2 cats and I found out that essential oil of eucalyptus is toxic to them. I am wondering will the scent be strong in entire bathroom from the plant hanging by shower?

This is a great idea I have problems with asthma and congestion this would really help! I do have one question though, is there a way to keep the plant in the shower without having to keep buying new eucalyptus? I would like to just keep the plant alive and well.
Lori
That’s a great idea! Eucalyptus tress can grow very large, but you could probably just keep a small one in a pot in your bathroom.
