Any store brand makeup remover pads are expensive! If you wear makeup every day and you need one to two wipes a day like myself, you may be spending over double what you could spend compared to using your own DIY makeup remover pads. Not to mention store brand makeup remover wipes can have irritating chemicals and perfumes that can dry your face and strip it of natural oils. This leaves you with more acne and redness which leads to more makeup usage! The cycle is never ending.
I’d always assumed that makeup remover wipes were complicated to make, until I realized I only need a minimum of three ingredients! By doing this I have saved so much money by making my own DIY Makeup Remover Pads at home.
Luckily, the makeup I use is all natural and doesn’t clog my pores even if I leave it on all day. I always make sure to remove it a night though to allow my skin to breath.
Why Use DIY Makeup Remover Pads?
Makeup remover pads are one of the best ways to remove makeup without leaving behind any stubborn foundation or coverup that may end up clogging your pores. These DIY makeup remover pads will help remove makeup while soothing and calming any redness or irritated skin. The makeup remover pads do more than just remove makeup; they also have beauty and skin benefits due to all of the great ingredients in this recipe!
These makeup removing pads are great for removing all types of makeup; foundation, coverup, liquid makeup, powder makeup, eyeliner, eye shadow, mascara and more!
What the Ingredients in DIY Makeup Remover Pads Do
I love these DIY makeup remover pads because each ingredient has a purpose! Unlike store-bought wipes that have unnecessary and potentially harmful ingredients.
The castile baby mild soap is a must have because you don’t want to be taking your eye makeup off with something that can burn or irritate your eyes. This is formulated for babies which makes it safe to use on your face and no tears if you accidentally get some in your eyes.
Coconut oil helps moisturize your skin and can reduce redness, dryness and can help soothe itching. This is why many people like to use coconut oil to shave. By using it in our DIY makeup remover pads, it can calm any acne or irritation you may be covering up with makeup!
Purified water is good to use because there are no heavy metals or chlorine in the water. With tap or well water there is a risk of skin irritants. While tap water is generally safe to drink and shower with, there are studies that show it can cause distress to the sensitive skin on your face. Overtime tap water usage on your face can dry out your skin by stripping it of natural oils. This can also lead to itchiness, dryness and redness! Definitely not what you want when you’re washing your face!
Optional Ingredients to Add:
The optional ingredients you can add also have great benefits to your skin too! Just remember if you use these to avoid removing eye makeup with DIY makeup remover pads.
Tea tree oil can help acne-prone skin because it has many antibacterial properties that remove multiple types of bacteria. It can even prevent scarring with its anti-inflammatory properties.
Frankincense essential oil can heal tiny cuts on skin and help to heal infected skin. Using this in DIY makeup remover pads can also clear up and even out your skin tone. If struggle with acne you may want to give this a try.
Witch hazel can relieve your skin in multiple ways. However, for our DIY makeup remover pads witch hazel’s astringent and moisturizing properties will leave your skin looking healthy.
What You Need to Make DIY Makeup Remover Pads
- 2 tablespoons of Coconut oil or jojoba oil
- 1/2 teaspoon Castile soap baby mild
- 2 cups of Purified water
- Cotton pads (1 pack)
- Microwavable bowl
- Quart sized jar
– I’ve found that this one works best because of the tight seal on the lid.
Optional Ingredients
Adding these optional ingredients may make the makeup remover pads a little more harsh to use around your eyes, so use at your own discretion. What I love about the homemade DIY makeup remover pads is that you can add these other ingredients to personalize the recipe to your own needs.
How to Make DIY Makeup Remover Pads
1.) Mix the coconut oil, castile soap and purified water together in the microwave safe bow.
2.) Microwave the mixture in 10-20 second increments (depending on how powerful your microwave is) until melted and mixed together.
3.) Place about half of the cotton rounds into the jar (I like to use these ones because they have an exfoliating side to help get rid of tough eye makeup). Pour the mixture over the cotton pads and use a spoon to push them down to absorb the liquid. After this you can add the rest of the liquid and fill the cotton pads up to the top. Be sure that they are all soaking in the liquid mixture.
4.) Tighten the lid and you have homemade makeup remover pads! Make sure to keep your jar in a cool & dry place to keep the pads fresh.
I can’t imagine buying makeup remover wipes at the store anymore when I realized how easy it is to make my own at home!
