I’ve always had hooded eyelids and recently began trying to find a natural remedy to change the appearance of it. I actually came up with the idea of trying egg whites as a natural remedy for drooping eyelids after I used an egg white facial mask. I’m so glad I tried using it for my eyelids because it really changed how my eyelids look!
Natural Remedy for Drooping Eyelids and Hooded Eyelids Using Egg Whites - I apply the egg white to my upper eyelid, let it dry and see a big improvement.

You won’t believe how easy it is to use this natural remedy for drooping eyelids and hooded eyelids! And I can’t believe there is no information on this online! And all you need is an Egg! I’m so excited that my experiment worked. Plus, it’s inexpensive and all natural!

Those are my before and after pictures of using this egg white natural remedy for drooping eyelids. I took the pictures within minutes of each other because that’s how fast it works when you apply egg white to your eyelid.

Update: I put up this post with this natural remedy over 7 years ago and since then, I have received thousands of comments and emails from people who found this remedy to work for them too!

How I Came Up with this Egg White Natural Remedy for Drooping Eyelids

My mom has been mentioning recently that she wanted to do something about her drooping eyelids. So, over the past few days I started researching natural remedies for drooping eyelids and surprising I couldn’t find anything! Then I started thinking about what could possibly help. Using an egg white for drooping eyelids was my first thought. I usually do an egg white facial once a week and I know how it tightens your skin and removes the appearance of wrinkles. Surprisingly, there was no information on using an egg white for drooping eyelids, so I had to experiment with it myself.

So, I used the egg white on my eyelids just like I do on my face. I applied a little bit to my upper eyelids, let it dry then looked in the mirror to see if it worked. I applied it a few times, trying it a little lower and a little higher on my eyelid to get it in just the right spot. After 3 tries, I looked in the mirror and wow, it really worked!

The egg white tightened my skin above my eyelid and changed how my eyelid fell. Now, as you can see in my picture above, you can actually see my upper eyelid instead of it being covered by excess skin. I’m so happy with how this natural remedy for drooping eyelids worked. I’m so excited to be able to wear eye shadow now and have it be visible. My hooded eyelids always made eye shadow invisible because the excess skin would cover it.

Improving the Look of Your Eyelids

Many want to improve the appearance of drooping eyelids and hooded eyelids. Drooping eyelids are associated with appearing tired and older. Some feel that improving their drooping eyelids will improve their self-confidence, physical appearance, and make them feel more attractive.

The weight from a drooping eyelid may also tire the muscles of the eye and cause fatigue.

When you have drooping eyelids or hooded eyes you may also have more difficulty applying makeup. Since having drooping eyelids or hooded eyes may make the eyelid itself not visible under the excess skin, eyeliner or eye shadow applied may not be visible. This is one reason I wanted to find a natural remedy for drooping eyelids because I could never really wear eye shadow.

What’s the Difference Between Drooping Eyelids, Sagging Eyelids and Hooded Eyes?

This is something I was curious about when I first started reading up on remedies for drooping eyelids. Before I knew the difference, I thought my eyelids would be classified as drooping eyelids, but actually, I have hooded eyes.

Hooded Eyes is just a term used to refer to those who have the physical characteristic of the skin above the eye slightly protruding over the natural crease of the eyelid. When you have hooded eyes, generally the eyelids are partially covered by the skin when your eyes are open, slightly hiding the eyelid itself. Having hooded eyes is actually very common, a few public figures that I can think of are Blake Lively and Renee Zellweger. Hooded eyelids aren’t necessarily something that needs a remedy, they are often viewed as alluring and beautiful.

Drooping Eyelids or Sagging Eyelids are not something you’re born with, instead it occurs over time and is most commonly associated with aging and the loss of skin elasticity. They may stay constant or progressively worsen over time. Drooping eyelids is very common for both men and women.

What Causes it?

Most commonly, drooping eyelids is the result of aging causing a loss of skin elasticity around the eye. The tissue loses its firmness and the ability to hold back the increased weight of the eyelid skin tissue. Other possible causes have been said to be thyroid dysfunction, fatigue, smoking, and increased oxidative stress.

Other Treatments Used:

There aren’t many great solutions or remedies for drooping eyelids. The primary options include upper eyelid cosmetic surgery (blepharoplasty), injections of chemical fillers, or thermage.

One much less invasive option I’ve come across is using eyelid tape. It’s pretty inexpensive and you just apply a piece of tape to your eyelid to hold it in a new position.

My Natural Remedy for Drooping Eyelids or Hooded Eyes

For this natural remedy for drooping eyelids, all you’re going to need is one egg! Nice and simple right? We’re just going to use the egg white part of the egg.

Egg whites naturally tighten and firm your skin when applied. The egg white will dry in less than a minute on your skin and the tightening effect changes how your eyelid falls. This helps pull in the extra skin so it does not hang over your eyelid.

When you apply egg white to your eyelid and let it dry, you will see results in a few minutes and the results have lasted me almost two days from application. I was very surprised!

The result only lasts while you have the egg white applied to your eyelid. Washing it off will make it not effective. However, when I apply it every day it seems to help “train” my eyelid to fall in the new placement and the result may be longer lasting.

Steps For Egg White Remedy for Drooping Eyelids and Hooded Eyelids

1. Make sure your eyelid doesn’t have any makeup and is dry.

2. Crack open an egg and remove the yolk, all you’re going to need is the egg white.

3. Hold your eyelid closed and dip a cotton swab into the egg white.

4. Rub the cotton swab across the crease of your eyelid (it should not drip at all, you don’t need much).

apply qtip drooping eyelid

5. Keep holding your eyelid closed and wait for the egg white to dry or you could sit in front of a fan to speed up the time.

That’s it! You may have to reapply it a little higher or a little lower if you didn’t get the result on the first try. For both my mom and I, we had to put it on 2 or 3 times to get it in the perfect spot. Once we figured out where to put it, it came out great!

Hey, I was born with one droopy eyelid. I wish I could show you a picture! Will egg white improve the way my droppy eye is now? Also when I was a kid, the doctors suggested that i get a surgery if I am having trouble with eyesight. Please suggest what I should do.

What about using an eye primer (UDPP) after you’ve let this dry and you’re ready for makeups?

Great question! I apply makeup right over it because it acts like an eye primer itself! If you apply a liquid eye primer over it, it may remove the egg white.

It’s not for everyone, I’m turning 37 and it had the opposite affect I now know I didn’t have drooping eyes, it’s just the shape of my eyes from my ethnic (quarter asian, 1/8th Hawaiian, and the rest European). I did think it would open my eyes up more, unfortunately my skin started having a bad reaction. I didn’t get a pic of the reaction because I wanted to wash it off right away. Instead I’ll just post a recent pic. I think this would work for certain ethnics, but not all, and def not with those that have extremely sensitive skin. Either way, I enjoyed your article, and gave it a try. 🙂

Hi Brenda, glad you found it helpful! I love using egg whites for facials! I take the egg white and apply it to my skin, leave it on for about 20 minutes (it makes your face feel tight), then rinse it off. I’ve gotten a lot of compliments that my skin looks “glowing” after I use it. 🙂

Just tried it, I think it did work, my eyes appears bigger at least I think so :), thanks a lot Lori. The only thing is I think it’s hard to carry when I’m travelling, I don’t think the egg can maintain fresh after 10 hours flight. Is there any way?

Glad it worked! I would suggest buying new eggs when you get to your travel location if possible. Or maybe you could put it in a lunch bag with a freezer pack to help keep it cool through the trip

I wondered about something. Do you think that eventually this might stretch the skin more and cause more wrinkles since it’s tightening and then loosening? I wondered how long your mother has been using this method and if she has noticed more wrinkles when she is not using the egg white. I would love to find a good remedy and this sounds wonderful.l

I don’t think it would cause more wrinkles, but that’s a great question! She hasn’t noticed any increase in wrinkles..actually she said they have minimized, but she is also taking collagen from grass-fed cows (which prevents and reverses wrinkles).

Great technique, but I have a question/complaint about it.

Does anyone else find that it makes their eyelid uncomfortable after applying the egg white. Only one of my eyelids is drooping, so I apply it on that one, and it feels very uncomfortable, like the drooping skin is being pushed back instead of becoming naturally tighter.

It only works while it’s on. My eyelid feels a little tight when I have it on, but not uncomfortable.

Hi! I don’t have a problem with my eyelids, but I have sagging (drooping?) under eyes… I was wondering if this remedy could help with that.
I tried applying the egg white under my eye, but there was no change in my eye’s appearance, though I could feel the tightness… Should I apply the egg white in a different area? Or should I change the amount? I’ve experimented quite a bit, but nothings seemed to work…

It helps with the upper eyelid because it tightens the skin making it appear higher. Hmm..I’m not sure how it would work on the under eye area. Some use it on other areas to tighten skin though, so it should tighten the skin on the area it’s applied to.

Hi this is the first time I’m on this site and I wanted to leave a comment even though this post seems older than a year but I was wondering is this also supposed to help people who’s “hood” is towards the inner/mid part of the eye because I’ve been trying for 2 days and still can’t seem to make it make a difference. Do you have to do one eye at a time to let it dry? I’ve been doing both together while looking down into the mirror then closing them to dry. And am I only supposed to put the egg on where my eye creases(that line where it folds) on the entire cease? I’m not sure if I’m doing it wrong or if it just doesn’t work on me

I do only one eye at a time until I get it perfect then switch to the other eye. You may have to experiment with where you put it a little. The first time I used it, it took me at least 8 times to get it just right. I would try putting it across the whole crease then applying it higher or lower, until you find the best spot. Hope this helps!

My concern is does the egg become a potential for growing bacteria? Which is found naturally in eggs. And then using makeup brushes to apply makeup on top, bacteria can transfer to the brushes

I only keep the egg white for a few days to prevent bacteria. The bacteria can be a concern on a makeup brush, so it may best to wash it after each use.
