I’ve always had hooded eyelids and recently began trying to find a natural remedy to change the appearance of it. I actually came up with the idea of trying egg whites as a natural remedy for drooping eyelids after I used an egg white facial mask. I’m so glad I tried using it for my eyelids because it really changed how my eyelids look!
Natural Remedy for Drooping Eyelids and Hooded Eyelids Using Egg Whites - I apply the egg white to my upper eyelid, let it dry and see a big improvement.

You won’t believe how easy it is to use this natural remedy for drooping eyelids and hooded eyelids! And I can’t believe there is no information on this online! And all you need is an Egg! I’m so excited that my experiment worked. Plus, it’s inexpensive and all natural!

Those are my before and after pictures of using this egg white natural remedy for drooping eyelids. I took the pictures within minutes of each other because that’s how fast it works when you apply egg white to your eyelid.

Update: I put up this post with this natural remedy over 7 years ago and since then, I have received thousands of comments and emails from people who found this remedy to work for them too!

How I Came Up with this Egg White Natural Remedy for Drooping Eyelids

My mom has been mentioning recently that she wanted to do something about her drooping eyelids. So, over the past few days I started researching natural remedies for drooping eyelids and surprising I couldn’t find anything! Then I started thinking about what could possibly help. Using an egg white for drooping eyelids was my first thought. I usually do an egg white facial once a week and I know how it tightens your skin and removes the appearance of wrinkles. Surprisingly, there was no information on using an egg white for drooping eyelids, so I had to experiment with it myself.

So, I used the egg white on my eyelids just like I do on my face. I applied a little bit to my upper eyelids, let it dry then looked in the mirror to see if it worked. I applied it a few times, trying it a little lower and a little higher on my eyelid to get it in just the right spot. After 3 tries, I looked in the mirror and wow, it really worked!

The egg white tightened my skin above my eyelid and changed how my eyelid fell. Now, as you can see in my picture above, you can actually see my upper eyelid instead of it being covered by excess skin. I’m so happy with how this natural remedy for drooping eyelids worked. I’m so excited to be able to wear eye shadow now and have it be visible. My hooded eyelids always made eye shadow invisible because the excess skin would cover it.

Improving the Look of Your Eyelids

Many want to improve the appearance of drooping eyelids and hooded eyelids. Drooping eyelids are associated with appearing tired and older. Some feel that improving their drooping eyelids will improve their self-confidence, physical appearance, and make them feel more attractive.

The weight from a drooping eyelid may also tire the muscles of the eye and cause fatigue.

When you have drooping eyelids or hooded eyes you may also have more difficulty applying makeup. Since having drooping eyelids or hooded eyes may make the eyelid itself not visible under the excess skin, eyeliner or eye shadow applied may not be visible. This is one reason I wanted to find a natural remedy for drooping eyelids because I could never really wear eye shadow.

What’s the Difference Between Drooping Eyelids, Sagging Eyelids and Hooded Eyes?

This is something I was curious about when I first started reading up on remedies for drooping eyelids. Before I knew the difference, I thought my eyelids would be classified as drooping eyelids, but actually, I have hooded eyes.

Hooded Eyes is just a term used to refer to those who have the physical characteristic of the skin above the eye slightly protruding over the natural crease of the eyelid. When you have hooded eyes, generally the eyelids are partially covered by the skin when your eyes are open, slightly hiding the eyelid itself. Having hooded eyes is actually very common, a few public figures that I can think of are Blake Lively and Renee Zellweger. Hooded eyelids aren’t necessarily something that needs a remedy, they are often viewed as alluring and beautiful.

Drooping Eyelids or Sagging Eyelids are not something you’re born with, instead it occurs over time and is most commonly associated with aging and the loss of skin elasticity. They may stay constant or progressively worsen over time. Drooping eyelids is very common for both men and women.

What Causes it?

Most commonly, drooping eyelids is the result of aging causing a loss of skin elasticity around the eye. The tissue loses its firmness and the ability to hold back the increased weight of the eyelid skin tissue. Other possible causes have been said to be thyroid dysfunction, fatigue, smoking, and increased oxidative stress.

Other Treatments Used:

There aren’t many great solutions or remedies for drooping eyelids. The primary options include upper eyelid cosmetic surgery (blepharoplasty), injections of chemical fillers, or thermage.

One much less invasive option I’ve come across is using eyelid tape. It’s pretty inexpensive and you just apply a piece of tape to your eyelid to hold it in a new position.

My Natural Remedy for Drooping Eyelids or Hooded Eyes

For this natural remedy for drooping eyelids, all you’re going to need is one egg! Nice and simple right? We’re just going to use the egg white part of the egg.

Egg whites naturally tighten and firm your skin when applied. The egg white will dry in less than a minute on your skin and the tightening effect changes how your eyelid falls. This helps pull in the extra skin so it does not hang over your eyelid.

When you apply egg white to your eyelid and let it dry, you will see results in a few minutes and the results have lasted me almost two days from application. I was very surprised!

The result only lasts while you have the egg white applied to your eyelid. Washing it off will make it not effective. However, when I apply it every day it seems to help “train” my eyelid to fall in the new placement and the result may be longer lasting.

Steps For Egg White Remedy for Drooping Eyelids and Hooded Eyelids

1. Make sure your eyelid doesn’t have any makeup and is dry.

2. Crack open an egg and remove the yolk, all you’re going to need is the egg white.

3. Hold your eyelid closed and dip a cotton swab into the egg white.

4. Rub the cotton swab across the crease of your eyelid (it should not drip at all, you don’t need much).

apply qtip drooping eyelid

5. Keep holding your eyelid closed and wait for the egg white to dry or you could sit in front of a fan to speed up the time.

That’s it! You may have to reapply it a little higher or a little lower if you didn’t get the result on the first try. For both my mom and I, we had to put it on 2 or 3 times to get it in the perfect spot. Once we figured out where to put it, it came out great!

I was born with hooded eyes (very hard to find eye makeup tips for hooded eyes) and as I’m getting older (50+) the hoods are beginning to sag and the little bit of eyelids I always had are slowly disappearing. I tried your egg white suggestion and…wow! I’m not saying that “it was a miracle” and I had regular looking eyes afterwards but, oh my, it definitely lifted them enough to see the difference. And I’m not sure why but my eyes felt wider perhaps because the heaviness was lifted a bit. Thank you so much for sharing this information (I also pinned it on Pinterest) because it is difficult to find information on hooded eyes.

It’s absolutely why your eyes “felt wider.” My hooded lids shrink my eyes considerably.

    Hi! Two questions:
Will my skin be smelly throughout the day??? 🙁 Sounds a little bit gross to leave it on to me. I’m scared my boyfriend will notice some weird egg smell when he gives me kisses P: Haha!
Also, could this work for bags under the eyes? 😀 It sounds like the egg white could “tighten” anything we don’t want on our face…

Hi Alexis, it will most definitely not be smelly! You only need a very small dot of egg white for it to work and it does not smell at all, it’s also invisible too! You could try it on the back of your hand or face first just to test it out. It may work for under eye bags, I haven’t tried it for that yet! It does tighten and smooth out the skin anywhere you put it, so it might work!

I’m not sure if it is able to alter how the eyelid falls if used over a long period of time, I’ve only used it here and there. But you could apply it at night and the results should last through the next day.

It may take some experimenting, when close eyes, put a line of it across the center. You may have to apply it a few times to find the right place, trying it a little higher or lower, or both and covering a wider area. In between, you don’t have to wash it off, just put it on top. It really helped when I held my eyelid closed the entire time and sat in front of fan so it would dry quicker.

Also, about the bee allergy and honey, that is not true. I am deathly allergic to honeybees, to the point I have to have 3 epi-pens on me at all times in the summer and be no more than 30 min from a hospital… but I eat honey! Lots of it. I even use raw honey on my face for acne treatments if I get a blemish. That works great too. 🙂

    Im so sad ):
I was so excited to try this.
It worked for one of my eyelids but it didn’t for the other one.
I guess my eyelid’s too heavy to hold the shape.
At first it works but once I start blinking it goes to its normal shape. /:

I’m afraid mine will be too heavy too. I haven’t tried it yet but I don’t want to get my hopes up. I can’t tell you how often I’m in the 5%, 10%, etc. that the products, tips and so on don’t work on. Ironically, I’d say about 95% of the time I’m in “that” group. It doesn’t matter what we’re talking about. So frustrating.

Just do a search for, “facial exercises” and I am sure that you will find them. I found these in a Glamour magazine back in the late 70’s or early 80’s and it would take too long to explain it here in the comments. Best of luck!

Thank you so much for this information. My 5 year old was born with ptosis (droopy eyelids) her eyelid muscles didn’t developed all the way. Doctors say the only way to correct this is to have surgery. Although my daughter have to slightly tilt her head to see, she has 20/20 vision. She exercises her eyelids by shutting and opening her eyes as fast a she can for 15 minutes but I will add this to her daily routine. Again thank you.

Sorry to hear it didn’t work. Hmm..You could try using a fan or hairdryer to dry the egg white after applying it. This will help speed up the drying time and make sure to hold the eyelid closed. It took me 3 or 4 tries to get it to work for me, changing how high I put it or covering a wider area. Also, could try applying it on top of the first application.

If you leave the egg whites on your eye lids, do they feel sticky and smell? And if the weather is hot and humid, will it melt and get into your eyes?

Love this remedy since there are products out there to solve this problem such as curve strips of tape to put on the crease. This home remedy and the one I mentioned should be able to train you eyelids and so you’ll find that you might not need it a longer and longer period of time. You do have have to go back to it occasionally to retrain

I’m allergic to bees and eat honey, it’s the venom from their stings that causes the allergy. Totally unrelated to egg white eye lifts but i noticed this comment when reading through and that I’d jump in with my experience 🙂

I am a RN, I have worked in an Allergy Asthma Practice, and I am personally allergic to bees. Honey and bee stings are completely unrelated! I eat honey like it is going out of style, including the raw honey with is actually hard, not liquid. Bee venom and bee “spit” are not even remotely the same. BUT, eggs allergies and dermal applications of eggs are related! When you test for allergies, you do dermal testing, and intradermal testing is the 2nd step. What is placed ON your skin IS ABSORBED into your body. Most patients who are allergic to foods react just to placing it on and leaving it there for 10 minutes. I strongly, strongly advise against it if you have anaphalatic reactions to eggs!!! Never mess with true food allergies, unless you want to get very friendly with your epi-pen really quick! 🙂

If you are allergic to eggs, you should ask your doctor or allergist first. Many have reactions on their skin just from rubbing foods on it, I have seen some allergists actually use this as a way as determining if someone is allergic to a food. Sometimes people can be allergic to just egg whites or to just the yolk.

I am not sure if you tried this or not, but since your egg allergy does not appear on your skin when you eat eggs,ie. hives. I think you might be ok, the skin on the inside of your wrist is most like facial skin, you might try a patch test there first. If you don’t react to it, if I were you,I would try it on my eyes. I have Rosacea and very sensitive skin and I always test new products on my wrist and have had very few times that the patch test has not been accurate.

I bought a product that’s like the tape. It didn’t work for me. Apparently my eyelids are TOO hooded and my eyelid went right over the “tape” and looked very odd. I hope I have luck with the egg whites. I’m so excited to try this. I didn’t mind my hooded eyelids and I actually quite liked my eyes when I was younger, but as I age the saggier they are looking. If my eyelashes weren’t there to hold them up I can’t imagine how low they would sag. It’s no longer attractive and if I could afford the surgery, I’d get it in a heartbeat. Keeping fingers crossed that egg whites help.

Egg white facials are great! Just put the egg white on your face and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes then wash off. I always feel like my skin is glowing after!

                  Hi Lori,
For the past few days when I wake up, my right eye has a vertical wrinkle that runs from just outside the eye under the eyebrow down. Added to this, the same eye has been puffy as well. Sometimes the wrinkle is there, but not the puffiness but then later in the day, it gets puffy. Just the one eye. It also feels strange.
I’ve been feeling so down. I’m 60 years old but I just read of a 70 year old who said that the egg white helped.
Do you think the egg white would also reduce puffiness? If not, could you recommend something natural?
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing homemade remedies with all. God bless you, girl.

Hi Jeru, I’ve read that some do use it to reduce puffiness and swelling, but haven’t tried it for that purpose myself. I’ve also read that applying cold tea bags to the eye area can help reduce puffiness.

No, I don’t whip it. I just separate the egg white from the yolk and dip the cotton swab in.

This is awesome! Finally something to do with all those darn egg whites! Every time I make a smoothie with a yolk, I think, “Isn’t a shame I don’t have something to do with these egg whites?” as I watch them disappear down the drain….. Not only will the whites have a purpose now, but I’ll look better, too! Hot Damn!!

Hi, you won’t go red or dry your skin out at all. I’ve been doing this for over a year since reading this article and I love it especially for a big night out or photo opportunities. I tried the Instantly Ageless eye creams and it honestly didn’t work as well as the egg white. I found it worked better after I whisked the egg white first with a fork just for a few seconds. So cheap and so brilliant. l

The reason the egg whites work so well, is that egg whites naturally contain collagen, and collagen puts elasticity back into the skin. Better than any skin tightener on the market, and virtually costs nothing to use.

Thank you Lori for sharing this information. I thought of this same thing myself awhile back but didnt know if i was the only one. I tried it a few times before, but didnt do it often enough to know if it worked or not. I’ll try it again because like you said, maybe i wasn’t putting it in the right place. I guess i just needed a second opinion. I noticed that if u put a little of the skin from the inside of the egg shell, dippef in the egg white, will also help with. crows feet and wrinkles under the eyes. Just apply it at night before bed, and wash it off in the morning
            with soap and water.

I suffer of the same thing (over 50 and thinking surgery) but I love to try this, so I have a question since I am in the eyecare business.
Is there any risk of salmonella?
and because I use makeup everyday at work, could I risk to contaminate the makeup?

I would wash the makeup brush/hands after applying makeup to be extra safe. There is always a small risk of salmonella from eggs depending on where the eggs are from, if they’re pasture raised etc. Here’s a good post on it: http://empoweredsustenance.com/raw-eggs-safe/

I’d think that the possibility of getting salmonella is outside of the eggshell and if is already contaminated, in this case washing the egg with soap before cracking it, would be enough. Off course bacteria can reproduce after that, depending on the environment, but the amount is so little that this shouldn’t be a problem…

It’s not recommended to leave egg white on your face all day. It’s uncomfortable and it will ‘peel’ over time. That’s why it is only left on for no more than 20 minutes as you can start seeing it peeling after that length of time.

If you are afraid of salmonella, don’t use fresh egg, try with pasturized egg white or just find a commercially prepared product.

I used the egg whites and it only cracked and peeled off. Made my make up look crappy and it did nothing over time. It also felt like my my eyelid were so crusty.

It only works while it is on. So if you wash it off, it will no longer work until you reapply again.

Can I just say… Hooded eyelids are extremely exotic and make such a dramatic statement. It makes eyes look super intense and dramatic. No one should ever feel insecure about hooded eyelids. I don’t have them but I am very attracted to people who do. Just saying… It’s beautiful.

One eyelid is drooping more than the other, more so with age. My mother and my sister both had droopy eyelids, surgically corrected, but I’m just not ready to go through what they did. Watching them and seeing what they went through was too painful!……SO I can’t wait to try this when I get home from work.

I had my eyes done surgically and absolutely love the results! At first it was no picnic think about it cutting your eyelid upper and lower is going to be rough but the results were wonderful! I don’t think the egg white would have worked mine were very bad.

I cannot believe this works so well! Read all the comments and decided
to try it immediately. The first attempt was not great, I used too much egg white, but tried it again using less-and it looks great. I can see my eyelids! I no longer have a roll of eyelid over my upper lashes! It’s amazing that something so cheap, simple and easy can be so effective. Thank you, thank you, thank you-shall recommend this tip and your website to everyone.

Don’t it leave a raw egg smell since you have to leave it on and does the skin return to its saggy appearance after it’s washed off or stays tight?

My guess is the actual egg white will give you more bang for your buck. Eggbeaters have a fairly quick expiration date and cost way more.
To the author; thank you so much for this. I am all girl natural remedies and don’t subscribe to the pharma, overpriced, monopoly control hype. So, double whammy! I came out of a terribly abusive relationship 3 years ago. Every aspect of my life has improved since then. However, I neglected myself so much, it took a toll on me: I gained 40 pounds, have a horrible midsection (stretch marks, fat) and my eyelids have begun drooping, which has aged me. I’m a pretty girl, not willing to settle, and doing my best to avoid surgery to rectify it all. That said, aside from exercising, eating better and dieting, I am now super stoked about this egg white solution.
You may not realize this, but your little act of sharing will probably become a life altering improvement for me. Life altering. Increasing my self esteem and keeping me positively in the right track. I sound nuts, but don’t care. You need to know what a profound impact your little article can have.
Again, thank you. Karma will give back to you.
                  All the best.

Add this experiment to all the things you are trying. Wear colors around your face that make you glow. Get a friend to help you put a lot of fabric colors up near your face and you’ll find a new way to improve your looks! I’d suggest going to a cloth store as they have every color imaginable.

One eyelid smaller than the other? The egg white changes how loose or tight the eyelid skin is.

what part of the egg white do we use? There is a thicker part of the white and also a thin part. Just would like to know if it should be broken up and mixed. Thank you for this wonderful information. R~

I use the whole egg white part. The only thing I remove is the yellow yolk.

from Mary aged around 70 – thanks for all the tips – most interesting.
tried the egg white – though I`m oldish I have just very fine wrinkles around
eyes; when the egg white dried it tightened the skin around the eyes,
and initially seemed to accentuate the wrinkles and droopy eyelids, but
then I put some simple face cream over the (dried) egg white around the eyes
and that was quite a good result; skin remained tightened but the cream
relaxed the skin a little. Overall effect is less tired looking for sure

I apply just enough to cover my face in a thin layer, probably 1/2 of the egg white from 1 egg.

Will it help your eyelids over time? Like, will they get better after you apply the egg whites a few times to where you don’t have to use it anymore?

For me, it only works while it is applied, but if it is used over time there may be a possibility of it ‘training’ the eyelid to fall a certain way.

Hi Lori, firstly I have to thank you for sharing this tip. I has given me so much confidence and I love wearing makeup now. Previously I used to hide behind a pair of specs because I was so conscious of my left droopy eye due to catarct surgery. However, I don’t know if it was ever related tor not, I was prone to conjuctivitus on the eye that I put the egg white. After having conjunctivitus 3 times, I started to wonder if the egg white could be contirbuting to it. I thought very hard and wanted an alternative to give the same results. I finally thought why not Aloe Vera Gel? It makes the skin a little tight so off I went to the chemist and bought a tube. I have since tried it and it takes a bit longer than egg white to dry and and so happy the results were the same. Psycologically, I am more at rest that I am putting this rather than protein on my eyelid. But the credit goes to you for putting the concept out there for all of us. I have modified it to suit myself and just wanted to share this with you too.

Just an update – aloe vera did not work that well so have stopped. Back to egg white but I suggest that it must be kept in the fridge at all times and replaced frequently to avoid spoilage. I take a little bit of the eggwhite when I use eggs for anything and put it in a very tiny container with lid in the fridge.

I put it on both of mine. It lifts the eyelid, so, whichever eyelid is the one that needs more lifting/tightening.

It only lasts while it’s on. So, if you don’t wash it off, it may last a day or up to 3 days. Then you’ll need to reapply.

Some use it on other facial areas to tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. I apply it to my whole face as a natural facial mask. It leaves my skin glowing and it also shrinks my pores.

        Hi Lori
I too have hooded eyelids and tried the egg whites but it didn’t work for my eyelids as well as a different theory I came up with. Rather than putting it on my eyelids, I raised my eyebrows and put it on my forehead and let it dry and applied a second coat. That kept my forehead tight and was enough to lift my eyebrows and keep my hooded lids up enough to make a difference!

Thanks for the egg white idea Lori!

This might sound silly but you didn’t mention if you have to rinse it off or leave it on? My assumption is you’re leaving the egg white on?

You have to leave it on for as long as you want it to work. When you wash it off, it will no longer have the effect.

Hello and thank you for the idea 🙂
..im wondering the WHYs*.& HOWS* It is able to work.
#1 Do you wash it Off?
#2 is it the stickiness of the egg whites that are acting as A glue for the eyelid…
#3 what nutrients is the egg white serving the skin to firm…

I only wash it off when I no longer want it to work. It only works while it’s on. I think it works because it tightens this skin making the eyelid fall differently than how it typically falls.

You have to leave it on for as long as you would like it to work. After I put it on, it dries in less than a minute, lasts a day or two, and I can’t even feel it on.

I have used egg white in lieu of hairspray or mousse.(My hair is very thick, and this was the only way I could achieve 80’s ‘mall hair’.)

It’s awesome. As with the eye remedy, a little goes a long way if using it on your hair. (Heat from blow dryers, irons or curlers is fine – if not too much egg white.)

Prep H works, but has a thinning agent, that constricts blood vessels. Since your skin is so thin around your eyes, you are actually thinning your skin more by applying Prep H. Over time, this will prove counter productive. Maybe consider a less expensive, probably more effective solution, such as egg whites?

This works with foundation too. Put make up on ,when dry, pat egg white
With ring finger. Best results for me was under eye bags. Its wonderful and
      Lasts all day
