I’ve always had hooded eyelids and recently began trying to find a natural remedy to change the appearance of it. I actually came up with the idea of trying egg whites as a natural remedy for drooping eyelids after I used an egg white facial mask. I’m so glad I tried using it for my eyelids because it really changed how my eyelids look!
You won’t believe how easy it is to use this natural remedy for drooping eyelids and hooded eyelids! And I can’t believe there is no information on this online! And all you need is an Egg! I’m so excited that my experiment worked. Plus, it’s inexpensive and all natural!
Those are my before and after pictures of using this egg white natural remedy for drooping eyelids. I took the pictures within minutes of each other because that’s how fast it works when you apply egg white to your eyelid.
Update: I put up this post with this natural remedy over 7 years ago and since then, I have received thousands of comments and emails from people who found this remedy to work for them too!
How I Came Up with this Egg White Natural Remedy for Drooping Eyelids
My mom has been mentioning recently that she wanted to do something about her drooping eyelids. So, over the past few days I started researching natural remedies for drooping eyelids and surprising I couldn’t find anything! Then I started thinking about what could possibly help. Using an egg white for drooping eyelids was my first thought. I usually do an egg white facial once a week and I know how it tightens your skin and removes the appearance of wrinkles. Surprisingly, there was no information on using an egg white for drooping eyelids, so I had to experiment with it myself.
So, I used the egg white on my eyelids just like I do on my face. I applied a little bit to my upper eyelids, let it dry then looked in the mirror to see if it worked. I applied it a few times, trying it a little lower and a little higher on my eyelid to get it in just the right spot. After 3 tries, I looked in the mirror and wow, it really worked!
The egg white tightened my skin above my eyelid and changed how my eyelid fell. Now, as you can see in my picture above, you can actually see my upper eyelid instead of it being covered by excess skin. I’m so happy with how this natural remedy for drooping eyelids worked. I’m so excited to be able to wear eye shadow now and have it be visible. My hooded eyelids always made eye shadow invisible because the excess skin would cover it.
Improving the Look of Your Eyelids
Many want to improve the appearance of drooping eyelids and hooded eyelids. Drooping eyelids are associated with appearing tired and older. Some feel that improving their drooping eyelids will improve their self-confidence, physical appearance, and make them feel more attractive.
The weight from a drooping eyelid may also tire the muscles of the eye and cause fatigue.
When you have drooping eyelids or hooded eyes you may also have more difficulty applying makeup. Since having drooping eyelids or hooded eyes may make the eyelid itself not visible under the excess skin, eyeliner or eye shadow applied may not be visible. This is one reason I wanted to find a natural remedy for drooping eyelids because I could never really wear eye shadow.
What’s the Difference Between Drooping Eyelids, Sagging Eyelids and Hooded Eyes?
This is something I was curious about when I first started reading up on remedies for drooping eyelids. Before I knew the difference, I thought my eyelids would be classified as drooping eyelids, but actually, I have hooded eyes.
Hooded Eyes is just a term used to refer to those who have the physical characteristic of the skin above the eye slightly protruding over the natural crease of the eyelid. When you have hooded eyes, generally the eyelids are partially covered by the skin when your eyes are open, slightly hiding the eyelid itself. Having hooded eyes is actually very common, a few public figures that I can think of are Blake Lively and Renee Zellweger. Hooded eyelids aren’t necessarily something that needs a remedy, they are often viewed as alluring and beautiful.
Drooping Eyelids or Sagging Eyelids are not something you’re born with, instead it occurs over time and is most commonly associated with aging and the loss of skin elasticity. They may stay constant or progressively worsen over time. Drooping eyelids is very common for both men and women.
What Causes it?
Most commonly, drooping eyelids is the result of aging causing a loss of skin elasticity around the eye. The tissue loses its firmness and the ability to hold back the increased weight of the eyelid skin tissue. Other possible causes have been said to be thyroid dysfunction, fatigue, smoking, and increased oxidative stress.
Other Treatments Used:
There aren’t many great solutions or remedies for drooping eyelids. The primary options include upper eyelid cosmetic surgery (blepharoplasty), injections of chemical fillers, or thermage.
One much less invasive option I’ve come across is using eyelid tape. It’s pretty inexpensive and you just apply a piece of tape to your eyelid to hold it in a new position.
My Natural Remedy for Drooping Eyelids or Hooded Eyes
For this natural remedy for drooping eyelids, all you’re going to need is one egg! Nice and simple right? We’re just going to use the egg white part of the egg.
Egg whites naturally tighten and firm your skin when applied. The egg white will dry in less than a minute on your skin and the tightening effect changes how your eyelid falls. This helps pull in the extra skin so it does not hang over your eyelid.
When you apply egg white to your eyelid and let it dry, you will see results in a few minutes and the results have lasted me almost two days from application. I was very surprised!
The result only lasts while you have the egg white applied to your eyelid. Washing it off will make it not effective. However, when I apply it every day it seems to help “train” my eyelid to fall in the new placement and the result may be longer lasting.
Steps For Egg White Remedy for Drooping Eyelids and Hooded Eyelids
1. Make sure your eyelid doesn’t have any makeup and is dry.
2. Crack open an egg and remove the yolk, all you’re going to need is the egg white.
3. Hold your eyelid closed and dip a cotton swab into the egg white.
4. Rub the cotton swab across the crease of your eyelid (it should not drip at all, you don’t need much).
5. Keep holding your eyelid closed and wait for the egg white to dry or you could sit in front of a fan to speed up the time.
That’s it! You may have to reapply it a little higher or a little lower if you didn’t get the result on the first try. For both my mom and I, we had to put it on 2 or 3 times to get it in the perfect spot. Once we figured out where to put it, it came out great!

Is this a permanent solution? If not how long does it last? Also, if do you know of any permanent solutions?
It lasts a day or two after applied.
This is AMAZING! My eyes look totally refreshed and at least 10 years younger!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing how it worked 🙂
This worked! Awesommmmmmme! So glad I found this. I inky noticed this problem in the last two yrs. One eye is hooded while the other is not. I’m not sure if this happened or was always this way but in self conscious about it, thus I never wear contacts BC glasses help hide it. I put eggs whites on the hooded eye and they r a lot closer to matching! I used egg whites out of the carton. They stay good for months. Thank you!!!!!!
So glad to hear it worked for you! The results really are amazing!
I’ve never heard of this before but it seems like a “Well duh! Why didn’t I think of this?” type of question. I know of eyelid tape and eyelid glue (popular in some Asian cultures). Basically, it’s putting something in the way of your natural eyelid fold that “holds up” the flesh. When I’m tired or my allergies are acting up, one of my eyes becomes hooded. Not a good look to have mismatched eyes! I’ve been cutting my own medical tape into little slivers to use as eyelid tape and it has worked well, but I love the idea of this natural egg white option. Can’t wait to try it. With eyelid tape or eyelid glue, you can get different looks depending on where you put it. Probably the same with the egg white so try experimenting. Here’s a photo of eyelid glue: http://www.beautytots.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/How-to-Get-Double-Eyelids-with-Glue.jpg
Let us know how it works for you! Where you put it does affect how it looks, it takes me a couple of tries to get it in the right spot.
I tried the egg white remedy and it worked for a few days, but somehow it stopped working after a while..
Did you reapply each day? I have to reapply it every day or two. It only works when applied.
I have droopy eyelids & I can’t even open my eyes wide . I tried it , and it didn’t work for me 🙁
Sorry to hear it didn’t work for you. Hope you can find something that works!
thanx. do i need to apply everyday?
I apply it every 2 to 3 days. As long as I don’t wash it off, it will stay on and last quite long.
Hey all! Is this a long term solution or just when you apply??? Im looking for something longterm! Lmk thank you!
It works only when applied, but it lasts pretty long about 2 to 3 days.
When you say it lasts 2-3 days, is that only without washing? Will it be removed right after washed out. I can’t do without washing and cleansing my face. What about after using makeup remover
For me, it lasts a couple of days as long as I don’t rub the eyelid area with soap and water. I still wash my face, but don’t apply the soap to the eyelid area.
hi 🙂 i was wondering if this work cause my eyelids is very fat and my eye is all squash together. and how long will it take to notice the changes and does it work ? thank you 🙂
It works immediately as soon as the egg white dries, about a minute or so. I speed up the waiting time for it to dry by sitting in front of a fan.
I just told my little sister about the egg white treatment. She countered with another solution–Mederma! A little Mederma applied in the same way as egg whites works equally as well. Also, Mederma is derived from onions, and although it may not be organic, it’s pretty natural. Plus, it’s easy to transport. I recommend this as well. Just tried it, and it works at least as well as the egg whites.
Very interesting!
The skin on the eyelids is VERY thin and has lots of little veins that can soak up chemicals and deliver them right into the eye.
Mederma might have something in it derived from onions, but it’s also loaded with chemicals that I wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot pole, let alone putting the stuff on my eyelids.
Active Ingredients of Mederma:
Avobenzone 3% , Octocrylene (10%) , Oxybenzone 6% , Water , Allium Cepa (Red Onion) Bulb Extract , C12 15 Alkyl Benzoate , Dicaprylyl Carbonate , Hydrogenated Lecithin , Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride , Panthenol , Pentylene Glycol , Phenoxyethanol , Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) , Glycerin , Ammonium Acryloyl Dimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer , Fragrance , Squalane , Methylparaben , Xanthan Gum , Disodium EDTA , Ceramide 3 , Sodium Hyaluronate , Butylparaben , Ethylparaben , Propylparaben , Isobutylparaben
Getting some filler injected under the brow will also lift the eye.
I just tried this–AND IT REALLY WORKS! Pretty amazing! I’m 57 and have developed heavily lidded upper eyelids. This took 10 years off my eyes, and gives me time to save for more permanent options. It works better on one eye, but I think I can figure out how to reapply extra to the other eye for more symmetrical results. Can’t believe I’ve not read of this before. To anybody considering trying this out–TRY IT! It really works!
Thanks for sharing how it worked! So glad it helped 🙂
Sounds fab, but same question as Genet, can and how do you apply make up without effecting it? Am eager to try it out because at nearly 40 I need all the help i can get!
I apply right on top after it has dried and it works great!
So, you just let the egg white dry on your eye lid and leave it there? You can put your makeup on over it? Or do you wipe it off before you put your makeup on?
I leave it on all day and just apply any makeup on top after it has dried 🙂
Can you use the egg whites in the carton? or does it have to be from a fresh egg?
I’m going to have to try this again.. Maybe I used too much eggwhite but it took so long to dry that I gave up and washed it off.. How do you determine how much to use.?
I sit in front of fan to speed up the drying time 🙂 I dip a q-tip into the egg white and that is enough for me, but it may take a couple of tries to get it in the right spot.
I’m not sure if that would work the same. Let us know if you give it a try 🙂
After removing yolk from egg can you store rest of egg whites? If so how long before going bad. I would hate to waste a whole egg for one use.
Absolutely, I store the egg white in my fridge to reuse throughout the week. Only a small drop is needed each time.
I’m sorry to be the one to say this, but this is not really a “cure” is it? It merely stiffens the eyelid skin in a given pose and thus pushes the droopy bagging part of the eyelid back as you open your eyes, right? Don’t get me wrong, this is still the very best method I’ve been able to stumble upon, that offers immediate results (unlike facial yoga/exercises) and is well within the natural category of methods. I am only pointing out that the effect is purely mechanical, and will only last as long as you have the egg white on your eyelids. So my point is, calling it a “remedy” might be overselling it a bit… Definitely worth it for a party where you want to look extra sharp though, but I wouldn’t want to apply this every day. Also; the added stiffness to the eyelid skin is not unnoticeable – not to me at least 🙂
Thanks for sharing though.
If it works, it works. I didn’t get the impression at all that this would replace the surgery and I don’t think it’s suggested that way. For many it does “remedy” the situation. Even if it’s just for a little while. I see many here have appreciated the tip. I have BOUGHT things that haven’t worked but this blogger isn’t trying to sell anything. She’s passing on info that helped her and obviously many others. Why point out the negative instead of the positive? She’s not gaining anything from passing this on so why dissenting. Geez.
Because he’s a guy & obviously doesn’t have anything better to do.
Gonna give this a try…but wondering about Salmonella setting in and getting absorbed into the skin…granite it’s a small amount..just a thought I had.
I have Ptosis and wont do this. In theory good idea however unless you would eat an egg left out at room temp, you shouldn’t be applying it to your skin either. Whether it absorbs or not all it takes is for you to touch it then your finger goes to your mouth or you prepare foods and salmonella is spread. This is probably why you wont find this idea elsewhere I hate to say.
Great point! However, I’m not really worried about the risk of salmonella as many eat eggs raw and use egg whites for face masks and to tighten wrinkles. This article goes over the risk of salmonella in more detail: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/drinking-raw-eggs/#axzz2TQ9yZGY2
I have been always having problems with my drooping eyelids. Will definitely give this remedy a try!
Is it alright to keep the egg white on the eye lid all day? It seems like over time this will dry the eyelid and make the “hooding” situation worse. Has anyone experiencing drying?
I just tried the egg white trick and it is truly a miracle. The results are amazing.
I am so glad it worked great! The results really are amazing. I keep it on all day and even for 2 or 3 days. It lasts quite long, but after 2 or 3 days I reapply because it starts wearing off.
Thanks for the tip Lori. Do you do not have any issues with the egg white drying your eyelid?
Not at all! If there is ever a spot that seems dry, I just lightly brush the excess off with a cloth (very gently)
how does the facial work. how long does it stay on ?
For the egg white facial, I put just pure egg white on my face and let it sit for about 30 minutes and then wash off. Some leave it on certain areas to help smooth the skin and eliminate the appearance of wrinkles.
What about exercise to fix this problem? I do Flex Effect facial exercises and it got rid of every droopy bit on my face – eyes, jowls, cheeks. It works and it’s all natural.
Thanks for sharing, I haven’t tried it, but good to know!
OMGosh…I just sat here typing my last comment and went in to see what my eyes looked like and I CAN”T believe the difference…this is amazing…I am going to use this everyday…we live in Florida and would like to know how this holds up with heat and humidity
I have the egg white on right now…my skin feels so tight and wonderful…I am 65 and totally Paleo etc….love crossfit and now something great to do with the egg whites…LOL…I was considering having my eyelids done…hopefully this will do the trick with out surgery….thanks so much..I love all of your suggestions
How long does it last?
It lasts about 2 to 3 days after applied and then you can just reapply again.
will it go right right back to.normal how it looked before i put it own?
*on*
It only lasts while it’s on, so as soon as you wash it off, it will return to normal.
I’m going to try this. I think it’s an excellent idea and can’t wait to see the results. Thank you! 🙂
Great! I am still amazed at how it works! Let us know how you like it 🙂
is the effect of egg is temporary on the eyelid?? I have to do thid everyday??
It lasts about a day or two after applied, so you may have to reapply every few days! But it lasts surprisingly long!
hi 🙂 how long will it take to see the difference 😀
The results are immediate! Right after it is applied to the eyelid just keep eyelid shut for 1 minute until it dries and then see the results 🙂
I have tried this but it’s noticeable as it dries white and ‘crusty ‘ looking. What am I doing wrong?!
Your using far to much
You could try using a little less, or slightly rubbing a little of it off after it has dried on.
i …have read all reviews will try this remidey hate my hooded eye lids
