I’ve always had hooded eyelids and recently began trying to find a natural remedy to change the appearance of it. I actually came up with the idea of trying egg whites as a natural remedy for drooping eyelids after I used an egg white facial mask. I’m so glad I tried using it for my eyelids because it really changed how my eyelids look!
Natural Remedy for Drooping Eyelids and Hooded Eyelids Using Egg Whites - I apply the egg white to my upper eyelid, let it dry and see a big improvement.

You won’t believe how easy it is to use this natural remedy for drooping eyelids and hooded eyelids! And I can’t believe there is no information on this online! And all you need is an Egg! I’m so excited that my experiment worked. Plus, it’s inexpensive and all natural!

Those are my before and after pictures of using this egg white natural remedy for drooping eyelids. I took the pictures within minutes of each other because that’s how fast it works when you apply egg white to your eyelid.

Update: I put up this post with this natural remedy over 7 years ago and since then, I have received thousands of comments and emails from people who found this remedy to work for them too!

How I Came Up with this Egg White Natural Remedy for Drooping Eyelids

My mom has been mentioning recently that she wanted to do something about her drooping eyelids. So, over the past few days I started researching natural remedies for drooping eyelids and surprising I couldn’t find anything! Then I started thinking about what could possibly help. Using an egg white for drooping eyelids was my first thought. I usually do an egg white facial once a week and I know how it tightens your skin and removes the appearance of wrinkles. Surprisingly, there was no information on using an egg white for drooping eyelids, so I had to experiment with it myself.

So, I used the egg white on my eyelids just like I do on my face. I applied a little bit to my upper eyelids, let it dry then looked in the mirror to see if it worked. I applied it a few times, trying it a little lower and a little higher on my eyelid to get it in just the right spot. After 3 tries, I looked in the mirror and wow, it really worked!

The egg white tightened my skin above my eyelid and changed how my eyelid fell. Now, as you can see in my picture above, you can actually see my upper eyelid instead of it being covered by excess skin. I’m so happy with how this natural remedy for drooping eyelids worked. I’m so excited to be able to wear eye shadow now and have it be visible. My hooded eyelids always made eye shadow invisible because the excess skin would cover it.

Improving the Look of Your Eyelids

Many want to improve the appearance of drooping eyelids and hooded eyelids. Drooping eyelids are associated with appearing tired and older. Some feel that improving their drooping eyelids will improve their self-confidence, physical appearance, and make them feel more attractive.

The weight from a drooping eyelid may also tire the muscles of the eye and cause fatigue.

When you have drooping eyelids or hooded eyes you may also have more difficulty applying makeup. Since having drooping eyelids or hooded eyes may make the eyelid itself not visible under the excess skin, eyeliner or eye shadow applied may not be visible. This is one reason I wanted to find a natural remedy for drooping eyelids because I could never really wear eye shadow.

What’s the Difference Between Drooping Eyelids, Sagging Eyelids and Hooded Eyes?

This is something I was curious about when I first started reading up on remedies for drooping eyelids. Before I knew the difference, I thought my eyelids would be classified as drooping eyelids, but actually, I have hooded eyes.

Hooded Eyes is just a term used to refer to those who have the physical characteristic of the skin above the eye slightly protruding over the natural crease of the eyelid. When you have hooded eyes, generally the eyelids are partially covered by the skin when your eyes are open, slightly hiding the eyelid itself. Having hooded eyes is actually very common, a few public figures that I can think of are Blake Lively and Renee Zellweger. Hooded eyelids aren’t necessarily something that needs a remedy, they are often viewed as alluring and beautiful.

Drooping Eyelids or Sagging Eyelids are not something you’re born with, instead it occurs over time and is most commonly associated with aging and the loss of skin elasticity. They may stay constant or progressively worsen over time. Drooping eyelids is very common for both men and women.

What Causes it?

Most commonly, drooping eyelids is the result of aging causing a loss of skin elasticity around the eye. The tissue loses its firmness and the ability to hold back the increased weight of the eyelid skin tissue. Other possible causes have been said to be thyroid dysfunction, fatigue, smoking, and increased oxidative stress.

Other Treatments Used:

There aren’t many great solutions or remedies for drooping eyelids. The primary options include upper eyelid cosmetic surgery (blepharoplasty), injections of chemical fillers, or thermage.

One much less invasive option I’ve come across is using eyelid tape. It’s pretty inexpensive and you just apply a piece of tape to your eyelid to hold it in a new position.

My Natural Remedy for Drooping Eyelids or Hooded Eyes

For this natural remedy for drooping eyelids, all you’re going to need is one egg! Nice and simple right? We’re just going to use the egg white part of the egg.

Egg whites naturally tighten and firm your skin when applied. The egg white will dry in less than a minute on your skin and the tightening effect changes how your eyelid falls. This helps pull in the extra skin so it does not hang over your eyelid.

When you apply egg white to your eyelid and let it dry, you will see results in a few minutes and the results have lasted me almost two days from application. I was very surprised!

The result only lasts while you have the egg white applied to your eyelid. Washing it off will make it not effective. However, when I apply it every day it seems to help “train” my eyelid to fall in the new placement and the result may be longer lasting.

Steps For Egg White Remedy for Drooping Eyelids and Hooded Eyelids

1. Make sure your eyelid doesn’t have any makeup and is dry.

2. Crack open an egg and remove the yolk, all you’re going to need is the egg white.

3. Hold your eyelid closed and dip a cotton swab into the egg white.

4. Rub the cotton swab across the crease of your eyelid (it should not drip at all, you don’t need much).

apply qtip drooping eyelid

5. Keep holding your eyelid closed and wait for the egg white to dry or you could sit in front of a fan to speed up the time.

That’s it! You may have to reapply it a little higher or a little lower if you didn’t get the result on the first try. For both my mom and I, we had to put it on 2 or 3 times to get it in the perfect spot. Once we figured out where to put it, it came out great!

Hi so I tried this but I just can’t seem to put the egg white on the right place! I have Asian hooded very small and thick eyes and I’ve been using tape for a crease. My left eye has formed a crease already but my right hasn’t so I wanted to use this method instead of the tape on only one of my eyes haha. So I tried multiple times but my eyelids are still heavy and droop :(( I don’t know what to do please help me

    I tried this and it didn’t work. : (
I tried putting less, putting more, putting it on every part of my lid, letting it dry longer, and it just didn’t work. My natural crease is lower on the lid than most people; it formed that way so that it would be able to hold all that weight over my lid (the “hood”). Could that be the problem? I just don’t understand why else it won’t work after reading everybody’s success comments. Am I doing something wrong? Does it only work on certain people? : (

Sorry to hear it didn’t work. The only thing I would do is try it higher or lower on the eyelid, or both, but sounds like your tried it in different spots. Hmm..for the most part I have heard great results in the comments but some have difficulty, not sure if it is due how it was applied or maybe depends on the person. If you can’t get it to work, hope you can find something that works for you!

God bless you for this fantastic idea! Wondering though, if we do this often, can it make eventually make eyelids more saggy? And, if you were to spread a tiny amount on face to tighten it, would it become flaky and noticeable? Thanks.

I don’t believe it would cause the eyelid to become more saggy; however, I haven’t been using it long enough to definitively say. Someone in my family uses it on their face to minimize wrinkles and they put it on, let it dry, and gently rub with a cloth any dry looking areas, so it is invisible.

i am 29 and i felt that I am having a drooping eyelid maybe due to stress and lack of sleep.. i tried exercise of lifting thr skin but it only works when done daily many times. massaging regluarly at night with castor oil or mixture of castor and olive oil works v v well for skin tightening around the eyes and removing of crows feet and circles. but it had to be done on regular basis. I cannot do so as i live in a humid country where its darn hot and humid. Coming to your idea of egg white, God bless you man… seriously…. on first application i felt it quite uplifted and i applied it at the moment i read the blog. n i am writing with egg white applied on lid.. thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu so mych.. but I have a query i heard that eg white could cause wrinkles around the eyes after it dries up, that is why they do not allow mask to be around mouth and eyes section?? plzz help me with this… and yes, egg white mask is superb especially for those who have oily and open pored skin.. works wonders…. 3 times a week is more than enough for young females and older can look at their requirement……….
plz let me know… and thanks a lot..what a super remedy… continued usage would help ofc…

Hi Maria, so glad it worked for you. I think that the small amount applied wouldn’t contribute to wrinkles, especially because of the location. Maybe areas around the ‘crows feet’ area may be more sensitive, but even when applied there, I think that when used in combination with a soothing moisturizer it would be fine.

Wow thank you so much for sharing this! My eyes have always been fairly hooded but my right one very much more so than my left. I used to be really self conscious about it, so much so that I used to cover my eye all the time with my fringe. Now that I’m older, I’m not so bothered and I’ve learnt to do my makeup around it, but a couple of summers ago I had a magical 3 months where my eyelid ‘behaved’ itself and stayed tucked up. Since then it’s stayed hooded and every now and then I reminisce about the ‘glory days’ haha! I’ve been thinking about ‘training’ my eyelids for a while out of curiosity, but I really didn’t fancy using glue or tape – something about pulling tape off my eyelid regularly makes me feel like I would stretch it even more? So as soon as I read this I had a go and it really works, amd being able to just wash it off means no pulling at your eyelids.

The training process takes a few months I know, and knowing me I may well get bored and give up, but knowing this technique has given me the impulse to give it a try! Thank you!

p.s. thank you to Lola for the link with eyeglue placement, it was really helpful =)

Mix 1 tsp of Alum Powder (found either with spices or canning products) to 1 egg white. Then apply to facial skin with a cosmetic sponge. Leave on until dry then rinse your face with warm water. Your skin will tighten for a lovelier appearance.

So what if one wanted the opposite effect? I’m a guy, and on a guy, hooded eyes look pretty awesome. Think Russel Crowe/Gerard Butler, who’s eyes look very deep set, and always look like they’re staring into the sun. My eyes, though, look like your eyes in your after picture. I want them to look like the before picture. Any thoughts?
