I’ve always had hooded eyelids and recently began trying to find a natural remedy to change the appearance of it. I actually came up with the idea of trying egg whites as a natural remedy for drooping eyelids after I used an egg white facial mask. I’m so glad I tried using it for my eyelids because it really changed how my eyelids look!
Natural Remedy for Drooping Eyelids and Hooded Eyelids Using Egg Whites - I apply the egg white to my upper eyelid, let it dry and see a big improvement.

You won’t believe how easy it is to use this natural remedy for drooping eyelids and hooded eyelids! And I can’t believe there is no information on this online! And all you need is an Egg! I’m so excited that my experiment worked. Plus, it’s inexpensive and all natural!

Those are my before and after pictures of using this egg white natural remedy for drooping eyelids. I took the pictures within minutes of each other because that’s how fast it works when you apply egg white to your eyelid.

Update: I put up this post with this natural remedy over 7 years ago and since then, I have received thousands of comments and emails from people who found this remedy to work for them too!

How I Came Up with this Egg White Natural Remedy for Drooping Eyelids

My mom has been mentioning recently that she wanted to do something about her drooping eyelids. So, over the past few days I started researching natural remedies for drooping eyelids and surprising I couldn’t find anything! Then I started thinking about what could possibly help. Using an egg white for drooping eyelids was my first thought. I usually do an egg white facial once a week and I know how it tightens your skin and removes the appearance of wrinkles. Surprisingly, there was no information on using an egg white for drooping eyelids, so I had to experiment with it myself.

So, I used the egg white on my eyelids just like I do on my face. I applied a little bit to my upper eyelids, let it dry then looked in the mirror to see if it worked. I applied it a few times, trying it a little lower and a little higher on my eyelid to get it in just the right spot. After 3 tries, I looked in the mirror and wow, it really worked!

The egg white tightened my skin above my eyelid and changed how my eyelid fell. Now, as you can see in my picture above, you can actually see my upper eyelid instead of it being covered by excess skin. I’m so happy with how this natural remedy for drooping eyelids worked. I’m so excited to be able to wear eye shadow now and have it be visible. My hooded eyelids always made eye shadow invisible because the excess skin would cover it.

Improving the Look of Your Eyelids

Many want to improve the appearance of drooping eyelids and hooded eyelids. Drooping eyelids are associated with appearing tired and older. Some feel that improving their drooping eyelids will improve their self-confidence, physical appearance, and make them feel more attractive.

The weight from a drooping eyelid may also tire the muscles of the eye and cause fatigue.

When you have drooping eyelids or hooded eyes you may also have more difficulty applying makeup. Since having drooping eyelids or hooded eyes may make the eyelid itself not visible under the excess skin, eyeliner or eye shadow applied may not be visible. This is one reason I wanted to find a natural remedy for drooping eyelids because I could never really wear eye shadow.

What’s the Difference Between Drooping Eyelids, Sagging Eyelids and Hooded Eyes?

This is something I was curious about when I first started reading up on remedies for drooping eyelids. Before I knew the difference, I thought my eyelids would be classified as drooping eyelids, but actually, I have hooded eyes.

Hooded Eyes is just a term used to refer to those who have the physical characteristic of the skin above the eye slightly protruding over the natural crease of the eyelid. When you have hooded eyes, generally the eyelids are partially covered by the skin when your eyes are open, slightly hiding the eyelid itself. Having hooded eyes is actually very common, a few public figures that I can think of are Blake Lively and Renee Zellweger. Hooded eyelids aren’t necessarily something that needs a remedy, they are often viewed as alluring and beautiful.

Drooping Eyelids or Sagging Eyelids are not something you’re born with, instead it occurs over time and is most commonly associated with aging and the loss of skin elasticity. They may stay constant or progressively worsen over time. Drooping eyelids is very common for both men and women.

What Causes it?

Most commonly, drooping eyelids is the result of aging causing a loss of skin elasticity around the eye. The tissue loses its firmness and the ability to hold back the increased weight of the eyelid skin tissue. Other possible causes have been said to be thyroid dysfunction, fatigue, smoking, and increased oxidative stress.

Other Treatments Used:

There aren’t many great solutions or remedies for drooping eyelids. The primary options include upper eyelid cosmetic surgery (blepharoplasty), injections of chemical fillers, or thermage.

One much less invasive option I’ve come across is using eyelid tape. It’s pretty inexpensive and you just apply a piece of tape to your eyelid to hold it in a new position.

My Natural Remedy for Drooping Eyelids or Hooded Eyes

For this natural remedy for drooping eyelids, all you’re going to need is one egg! Nice and simple right? We’re just going to use the egg white part of the egg.

Egg whites naturally tighten and firm your skin when applied. The egg white will dry in less than a minute on your skin and the tightening effect changes how your eyelid falls. This helps pull in the extra skin so it does not hang over your eyelid.

When you apply egg white to your eyelid and let it dry, you will see results in a few minutes and the results have lasted me almost two days from application. I was very surprised!

The result only lasts while you have the egg white applied to your eyelid. Washing it off will make it not effective. However, when I apply it every day it seems to help “train” my eyelid to fall in the new placement and the result may be longer lasting.

Steps For Egg White Remedy for Drooping Eyelids and Hooded Eyelids

1. Make sure your eyelid doesn’t have any makeup and is dry.

2. Crack open an egg and remove the yolk, all you’re going to need is the egg white.

3. Hold your eyelid closed and dip a cotton swab into the egg white.

4. Rub the cotton swab across the crease of your eyelid (it should not drip at all, you don’t need much).

apply qtip drooping eyelid

5. Keep holding your eyelid closed and wait for the egg white to dry or you could sit in front of a fan to speed up the time.

That’s it! You may have to reapply it a little higher or a little lower if you didn’t get the result on the first try. For both my mom and I, we had to put it on 2 or 3 times to get it in the perfect spot. Once we figured out where to put it, it came out great!

I’m 20 and started getting it in high school too. I get scared about premature aging too. Don’t worry! People will still think you’re a hotty. Believe it or not, people all start getting characteristics of aging in their own way, we just don’t notice.

You mentioned that thyroid can also cause drooping eyelids, do you happen to know whether or not this form of droopy eyelid is reversible as soon as the thyroid is under control?

I apply it on the crease/fold. It doesn’t smell at all and dries on clear, so it is pretty much invisible.

I’m not sure, I’ve only been using it for a short time so I couldn’t say. Some methods using tape suggest that when you leave it on the eyelid for so many weeks, the skin on your eyelid becomes trained to fall a certain way. The same idea may apply to the egg white, it’s possible.

In the morning; raw honey, witch hazel (acv), aloe vera. At night, removing make-up and toxins with coconut oil. A weekly baking soda scrub. A year ago I started researching and testing different simple, one ingredient fixes to create a minimalist, zero waste, plant-based lifestyle. (Blog pending another year or two of testing before I advise.)

On a dry washed face, apply as you would a moisturizer remembering the eyelids. Rub any extra into your hands as a lotion (no need for q-tip). Being so close to the eyes and impatience, I do use a hairdryer (barbar ceramic eco) to speed up drying.

Forehead wrinkles are gone. The eyelids are tightened. Crows feet non-existent. Acne scars healed. Lines around the lips, erased. Even the discoloration has evened to require less make-up! Chamomile tea bags, 15 minutes 1-2x weekly will plump up the dark circles.

Hi Lori I’ve just stumbled across your website, I’m so excited I’m going to try the egg white facial and put it on the eyelids tonight. I’ll let you know how it goes. Also Tiffany – I use Coconut Oil every night as a moisturiser and my skin has never looked so healthy in my life, but isn’t it a bit messy trying to remove make-up with it? Especially removing mascara/eye liner? And seriously no forehead wrinkles or crows feet with your beauty regime? Should I just mix the raw honey, aloe vera and witch hazel altogether in a bowl and then apply on my face? Does it need washed off? If so, how long do you keep it on for? I’ll be trying this too. thanks Bibi. x

@Bibi, I suppose the coconut oil is messy to remove make-up but I wipe clean with a cotton pad which works for me. I have also switched to using Physician’s formula makeup, soon to test pantry items but the entire process has allowed less usage, less mess, less negative reactions if not removed.

I apologize, the three items were to match the typical 3-step routine. Raw honey can be spread over the entire face and left as a mask (as you brush you teeth, etc) then rubbed off with water just as face wash. Witch hazel is a natural toner, used with a cotton pad. (I’m testing my personal ratios of apple cider vinegar:water for a switch). Then once dry, apply the aloe vera as you would a moisturizer remembering the eyelids. Make-up can be applied once dry.

I hope this clarifies it and works for you! *This routine has been used the past year after testing and has taken off many years of damage!!

Do you mean for improving hooded or a drooping eyelid? It works when used raw, just crack the egg and remove the yellow egg yolk. Then dip a cotton swab into the egg white.

you can use a toothpick to draw and tug in the crease better, as you would with double eyelid glue and there are plenty of tutorial vidoes on youtube.
And to make the residue less visible, you can use a damp Q-tip and dab across gently without wiping off the eggwhites.
    I hope these tips help.

This made my eyelids even hooded and saggy by the lash line.
Will using this method help get my eyelids back to how it was originally or is it only temporary and will it only tighten my eyelids on the day I use it?

You can buy tiny canisters (cheap as chips from dollar store or pound stores)and put a little egg white in each one and freeze and take one out to use for a couple of days if you are serious about doing this, there are about 8 canisters to a pack, that way one egg would last for ages.
I use these canisters to put a couple of egg whites in to use for meringues etc after I have used only yolks for a recipe

    Omg! I must try this!
My right eye isn’t really “hooded” but it’s crease wasn’t as even as my left so (due to Michelle Phan’s video) I was convinced to try out the double eye lid tape and glue. Needless to say, I would NOT recommend to do so unless you already have firm eyelid skin. The eyelid tape and glue tugged on my lid so much to the point where it even made my eyes worse and appear smaller :/ My never-hooded-uneven right eyelid is now… Hooded. -.-‘ The glue and tape tugged and stretched out my eyelid skin and it made it worse.
But this, this is a must try! Thanks!
